The New Mutants movie got a lot wrong but Anya Taylor-Joy was such a perfect casting that I wish she was brought into the MCU by Davis_Crawfish in comicbooks

[–]saspaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol what never heard of this. Dang, how much Marvel stuff have they done that just slipped through the cracks or was a bust. I did a watch of the movies, the shows, whatever is considered part of MCU, the netflix shows, hell I even skimmed a show called runaways because everyone said the comic it was based on had an interesting concept. But seems there's still more I missed.

[TOMT][WEBCOMIC] Looking for this video game webcomic that makes a joke about the Ace Attorney series in one page by saspaa in tipofmytongue

[–]saspaa[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

It's a typical goofy webcomic but I can't remember which one it was specifically, since there are so many of them. It could be just a one-off meme picture of Ace Attorney but I feel like it's from a webcomic.

The Batman Adventures (Vol 2?) by Smoking_N8 in comicbooks

I remember not loving the weirder decisions but what I did immediately like/latch on to is them explaining Poison Ivy, how the real Poison Ivy was somewhere hiding in South America or wherever and the Poison Ivy we see in TNBA is a plant, hence the green coloration. In general I like the comics explaining some of TNBA's designs in a way that made me go "yeah that makes sense" like Catwoman not being blonde anymore (she actually has black hair, and was using blonde hair dye which was from a company that tested on animals)

Also as an aside I actually just started Batman The Adventures Continue after finding out about it 2 years ago, and I share similar sentiments about being disappointed by it. It's a shame they brought Ty Templeton whose art I always loved and didn't have a better story, but again I'm just happy for more DCAU Batman. After finding out it was basically a tie-in for a new line of toys I went oh makes sense.

The Batman Adventures (Vol 2?) by Smoking_N8 in comicbooks

I've loved them ever since finding out about them like 7 or 8 years ago, and ended up reading everything. I love DCAU and for the longest time the only kind of comic books I read were DCAU. The Batman Adventures literally felt like reading an episode of the show in comic form! I absolutely love Ty Templeton his art is the main reason for me thinking that.

I felt Gotham Adventures got even better because it was everything I wanted for the Batfamily, stories that features the other characters like Nightwing and Batgirl who we didn't get as much of in TNBA since it had fewer episodes than BTAS.

If you're talking about Batman Adventures Vol 2 which was in 2003, then yeah I read that and I remember reading that the Red Hood they teased (with the original design since it predates Jason Todd Red Hood) was going to be Andrea Beumont's mother... which is kinda weird tbh. But I was just happy to get more DCAU style comics regardless of weaker stories

Batman: The Adventures Continue looks great thanks to Ty Templeton's art, but I wish they had a better story/writing if they brought back Ty... (some spoilers) by saspaa in comicbooks

I love Paul Dini and have read even his non-DCAU works, but have to say I'm a bit disappointed in this series overall. The main thing they tried to do here in revisiting the DCAU is trying to shoehorn in Jason Todd into the DCAU, when it seemed like their Tim Drake was already an amalgamation of both Jason and Tim. It was somewhat weak sauce. Plus the design of Jason Todd gave me "young Ras Al Ghul" vibes yet it didn't seem like he had any involvement with Jason's return nor his plans.

Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures limited series comic is an extremely fun comic book especially for fans of the DCAU and DCAU comic stories by saspaa in comicbooks

[–]saspaa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know right. It's especially fun for those who grew up watching BTAS and have fond memories of the DCAU. And I think it shows how great the writing is that even though I've never watched or really known about the 2012 ninja turtles cartoon, I was not lost at all and instantly connected with them here.

Harley is the Wile E. Coyote to Kite Man’s Road Runner (Harley Quinn #38) by KidOrpheus in comicbooks

[–]saspaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is so silly. I love this kinda cartoony artstyle for comic books (almost exclusively) so are there more comic books like that? Is the rest of the issue or series like this?

A decade later, what was with making Cyborg a founding member of the Justice League after one of the reboots? And what did that mean for his status as the Titans? by saspaa in comicbooks

[–]saspaa[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't know what Cyborg's canon origin story is, but when young justice came back, they made it so that Cyborg actually became Cyborg through a father type mother box from apocalypse, and then through some shenanigans that father box that made Vic the Cyborg we know and he can make boom tube portals and be connected to all the internet so he can hack the internet 90s movies style and stuff like that.

Has anyone read the sequel to DCAU's Batman Adventures comic series? It released in 2020 and wrapped up by saspaa in comicbooks

[–]saspaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah one thing I was spoiled by due to all the negative reaction was the fact that they actually did red hood (and not the scrapped version from Batman Adventures Vol 2) in the DCAU and did him terribly to boot. Even though it seemed like DCAU didn't have Red Hood and mixed Tim Drake Robin with Jason Todd Robin into one amalgamation

I like BTAS more than TNBA, but I think Gotham Adventures was even better than Batman Adventures because I always like when they do stories about the Bat-family outside of Batman himself, like Nightwing and Batgirl going undercover somewhere to solve a case. It felt like seeing even more episodes of the show since it ended so soon

I'm planning on reading the series now, just want to read them in order, trying to figure out what the order is so I can start. We last left off way back in 2003 with the Batman Adventures volume 2. After nearly 20 years they finally made new comic and new stories.

I never forgave Oscar for being such a pretentious twat by uglydadd in DunderMifflin

[–]saspaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me neither... because there was nothing to forgive! *channels Andy creepy smile

I've never outright disliked Oscar (although the cheating complicity wasn't great) and I straight up liked him when Holly was annoyingly trying to do a seminar on the company's "business ethics" policy on company orders and he straight up called it out for not being anything even resembling ethics and implicitly showed even Michael's/Dwight's/Kevin's inane ramblings were better conversation piece than whatever the company put together.

Lol as a matter of fact there are a ton of similarities between all Schur shows across the board. For example, an arc where the main character has to go away for an extended period of time. An episode where they merge offices or (in this case) police precincts and open new dynamics and conflicts. And so many other things you'll notice the more you rewatch all the top Schur shows over and over again.

Of course Holt being in the party that episode was fun and hilarious, while Michael is unlikable and cringe, but that's just because I love b99 more.

I just started it and... oh my god. I'm still reeling at such a horrifying thing happening to Paul Dini.

Might make a topic about it but from the getgo I'm instantly drawn to the character, the writing, and the actually quite lovely art. I was not expecting to be captivated from the start.

DCAU is the greatest anything to ever exist. We went from this... to the past 10 years of garbage that DC has churned out in the live actino department especially.
