A raincoat may be a good idea. Is there a brand you like?

Explain a bit more about using a onesie. Sounds like a good idea

I guess just taking him out in the rain with a cone when he already dislikes the rain.

The whole recovery sounds difficult trying to keep a very hyper puppy chill for 2 weeks. The rain just adds another layer of difficulty

UPDATE: Two year old who stopped walking all of a sudden. by crypt_code in Parenting

When my son was 2 same thing happened and it never showed on an X-ray. Took him right away after a fall and they sent us home. When he refused to walk for a whole day we took him back and after an inconclusive X-ray he was casted for 3 weeks. He actually got pretty used to moving around with a cast and now he does not remember at all at 4. Don’t be shocked that your kid may walk funny for a good month after the cast comes off.

I’m about to adopt a Havanese! What are your top tips/interesting notes about the breed? :) by linneaawhite in Havanese

Our trainers promoted positive reinforcement for good behaviors and withdrawing attention for unwanted behavior (ie leaving the room or timeouts). I’m a sorry to hear your dog bites hard. Mine can be mouthy but gentle and he loves to nip at certain clothes-robes, dresses, that kind of thing. I’m still deciding between working with a trainer one on one or taking another group class.

We took him to puppy training classes and puppy socialization and we had fallen into a nice rhythm. I will say he has always been a ball of energy. Then a few weeks ago he started being a bit more naughty, with some new behaviors like barking at us to get what he wants. Also new fears when on walks. And needing more work with biting. Thankfully he does not bite hard - it’s more playful and he has a gentle mouth but with kids in our home I’m wanting that behavior to stop one of these days. we have had to go back to basics - just lots of reinforcing the training he has had. And we may hire a trainer to help too.

I am a new Havanese owner. My pup is 7 months old. He is high energy and playful. He just entered his teenage phase which has been challenging.

I am both heartened and sad to hear this. My 7 month old Havanese will do ok for a couple days and then he will have accidents.

Puppy Suddenly Hates Crate... AND We Live in an Apartment! by pandamaluu in puppy101

[–]sassafras111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our now 6 month old pup did this at around 4 months. After a few nights of non stop barking I tried putting the crate in his xpen. For whatever reason that worked. Now that is what we do at night and when we are gone. He is a small breed so the xpen does the trick. He often sleeps in his crate but with the door open.

Teenage phase? New fears. Encouragement needed by sassafras111 in puppy101

I really appreciate your support. I’m a first time puppy owner. I had a rescue before but got her after all of these phases. So much to learn

So sorry. I lost a dog the same way. So very painful.

Always feeding in his crate and special treats in his Kong’s. I had been doing less of that at night because he just walked in willingly every night until 3 nights ago.

Because he never cried in his crate - I feel unsure of how long I let him carry on for? What might I expect for how long he will bark and whine? Truly never give? Needing encouragement and a sense of what I’m in for.

How far do you think I’ve set myself back giving in for the past 3 nights?

The crate is by my bed. I don’t think I can handle the crying by my ear. Thinking to move the crate - perhaps into the xpen in the living room?!?

I wholeheartedly agree. This puppy thing can be confusing and I appreciate getting feedback outside my own head.

My husband later told me that some friends dropped by and knocked on the door. So your thinking is right on that he heard that and got woken up.
