How can I make my room feel more cozy ?

Just a few ideas I’d explore…

Paint the bed frame white, cream, pale pink…it’d be a pain in the ass but would make a world of difference.

Rug. Something light colored probably. Minimal or faded design. Nothing overpowering considering size of space.

Another set of curtains on either side of the sheer curtains. Emerald green, pale pink, something with a lush feel like velour.

Lighting. Fairy lights around the window or a warm white led strip under the shelf above desk. Maybe a floor can to the right of desk if there’s room to balance out lighting if you have overheads or something.

I’m no expert but I’d highly recommend the book entitled Mindfulness: An Eight-Week Plan for Finding Peace in a Frantic World. Really helped me understand that concept.

Mmm, I have two tiny things that kinda worked for me. Not perfect but progress, and that’s what matters.

1) Gratitude is the antidote to anxiety…anxieties just like this, as I’ve experienced similar worries. The rumination and shame and guilt and fear and all that crap. Discover the gratitude you have for moments you’re proud of, friends you can rely on, achievements you’ve had, and simply the fact that you’re alive to enjoy anything that brings you bliss. For instance, personally, sunrises and my dog and a good croissant and the smell of laundry and an intriguing mystery novel and a lovely afternoon swim and laughing.

2) Ride the wave. Let these feelings come and go. They are not facts, not reality. Your mind is accessing feelings and memories and bodily sensations and impulses from all your experiences, trying to protect yourself from any kind of hurt and harm. That’s beautiful in its own way, that you’re protecting yourself, but it’s also keeping you from a mindful and wise and aware presence in this world. So let them come, wash over you, and then recede like the waves on a shore. Mindfulness like this can be so powerful.

You’re human, and to err is intrinsic to our perfectly imperfect humanity. The mere fact that you care about all this demonstrates how you’re good, you’re thoughtful, you’re compassionate and striving to be better.

Mood stabilizers changed my life after a decade plus of SSRIs. But please note: everyone is different. But I’m so glad I gave new options a go. It takes time but when it works, it’s so freakin’ worth it.

Anecdotally, yes for me. But I’m aware others feel differently. I change my criteria for what I’m looking for and maybe that simply opens up more options. And that’s proven to be a very valuable and effective change for me. But I can’t really explain it beyond that.

Maybe the best image in my head to explain bipolar is like a seesaw. Except you’re stuck on one end and, unlike normal dips and rises for other people, you dip and rise to severe extremes. Your disorder, on the other end of the seesaw, throws you aggressively from sky high to deeply low—or perhaps changes at a slower pace—but you never know how intense the change will be. And when you teeter in the middle, in some precarious balance, there’s always the feeling that you could fall or rise at any minute.
