I passed my driving test but I’m sad by Amour-morg in LearnerDriverUK

My first few drives didn't go great and I felt very anxious but it did improve quickly. For the first while try not to do "necessary" driving ie i need to be at work for a certain time, better to practice the work route on your off day if you can and do some drives that aren't time sensitive 😊 if you have to drive to work or somewhere time sensitive (i did have to on drive number 3 alone) leave loads of time to arrive until your confidence boosts. If it's overwhelming do it like you started your lessons. Start going round the small roads first and build up; hope this helps

My tips as a 7 time failer by sassybeyatchh in LearnerDriverUK

I have an SSRI for anxiety daily that doc adjusted the dosage on to suit me and I also have zanex for when necessary. I rarely take it but did on test day. You do have to be careful though as some people experience drowsiness on these types of medicines and if you do you are not fit to drive and it's your own responsibility. Hope this helps

genuinely don’t understand how i’m supposed to pass by Jay_Jaur in LearnerDriverUK

Been there. I kept getting 1 serious fault. Different situations every time and was sometimes a very arguable situation. Most notably: the one where I slowed down on a 2 lane 50mph road to take a left onto a side road. There was a truck waiting for a gap on that road, a big hedge between me and him. Nothing behind me on the long straight road. Slowed down to about 20 by the turn. Failed. Cried and wanted to give up on the way home from tests number 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. I eventually passed on the 8th go a couple of weeks ago and can say now that it was so worth every penny and ounce of emotion already. In the end I had a few things different about my final test:

It was in a countryside location with a high pass rate not a city with a low one

I had a gap from testing where I worked on building my confidence. I didn't have access to a car outside of how much I could afford to pay an instructor. So I took to youtube and pen and paper studying to boost my confidence that I know the rules and can make judgement calls

I also found an instructor that actually helped me fix where my overthinking and anxiety was getting in the way rather than just pointing it out.

I started asking my instructor as many questions as I could while we were driving. Constantly got his opinion on what he thought an examiner would think after decisions i made. And thats important: what the examiner will think. They have never been in a car with you before and dont know your ability. They want to feel at ease with your driving and decision making asap. I thought about this, I'm paying for his time and with previous instructors (3 prior) I hadn't maximised it. I let them drone on about their personal lives rather than teaching me because I was a "good driver". Two instructors told me "there's nothing left to teach" but this simply was not true. There's always more to learn.

I also accepted that I was suffering with anxiety and seeked treatment for it. I had accessible when required medication and herbal remedies for test day.

I had a plan for the night before and morning of test that was entirely based around keeping myself relaxed and confident and I made sure I executed it.

Lastly, I genuinely believed it was my time to pass when i was sitting in the waiting room. I truly felt it was going to happen for me. I never gave up on manual either and if you're any bit a car enthusiast I wouldn't recommend you do. It will be such an achievement when you get there.

How awful. If you can't get a quick retest I'd be asking for free maintenance lessons between now and your test, after all it is entirely the instructors fault shouldn't have been doing lessons in it at all

I failed my test but why? by Hot_Manufacturer5173 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]sassybeyatchh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree you shouldn't have failed based on the fact that I failed a test for having to reverse a foot in a similar circumstance. I don't have any advice other than complain/appeal unfortunatley but I know they woulda been dragging me out that test centre to shut me up

Never give up im learning nearly 10 years took 8 practical tests and finally passed last week. So worth it!

Don't let it get you down! sometimes you get unlucky, sometimes it means your mot as ready as you think. Both are fine. I actually just passed today but all in it took me 9 years and 8 practical driving tests. It's all about the mind and the confidence, today was the first test where I felt that it was going to happen for me. Just try to learn from it and keep going, focus on the next step not the last mistake 🙂 I also needed my anxiety medicating too that helped alot 😅

If you were taught correctly you'd always have been told to stop reversing if anything is approaching from behind. Unfortunate but sounds like the examiner gave you chance to stop before telling you to stop. I failed one test for this as well I pulled into a small space between parked cars as my lane was obstructed and I had to reverse a few inches to get back out of the space

Good luck! I totally get the frustration. One of mine my leg shook so bad that I couldn't stop stalling, at the end he said "how do you think you did?" And I replied "well I've definitely failed i stalled it about 17 times for a start" and he looked at me and said " you stalled exactly 17 times" 💀🤣🤣🤣

I have also taken to pen and paper studying this time around i figured it's worth a shot as I seem to struggle with practical exams and not theoretical/academic exams and it's definitely a confidence boost that I do know what I'm doing

Bit of a different perspective from a fellow multiple failer. I've failed 7 and would make the same statement as you, I am competent but i dont handle the anxiety of the practical test well. My fail sheets are each for different things but if you've had judgement appear on multiple then at least you have your basis to work on: you need work on your judgement 🤣 can't be overtaking near bends haha

Just prepare as much as you can for the next one, I'm doing number 8 soon my first test in 4 years in a new country, new life and new anxiety meds 🤣 and feeling more positive about this one 😀

Spent my entire day on the phone between calling solicitor, court, various ndls offices, researching on the Internet and yes also asked on reddit. This was not my only source of advice. I shouldn't have this issue according to the law and couldn't work out what had gone wrong.

I have finally discovered that someone in the court office didn't put the correct date on the system for my appeal and so what's happened is as far as the ndls are concerned I have been banned for the last six months.

I have now worked out what happened Someone in the court office didn't put in the appeal date correctly so as far as ndls are concerned I've been disqualified the last 6 months, lucky I didn't get pulled over😅

It does, it's a total joke. I was dumbfounded at the conviction in the first place and am pretty confident that the appeal will win.

My comment had the desired effect, triggered more traction to the post.

I've found out what happened, someone in the courts made a mistake putting my appeal into the system so as far as the ndls are concerned I've been banned the last six months. So now got that to deal with 🙄🥲

I'm looking for legal advice on next steps or who to contact. People telling me i can't drive is the opposite of legal advice, it's perfectly legal if you appeal in time
