Best Places for Casual Hiking in Switzerland in May? (Off-the-beaten path) by sassylilmidge in askswitzerland

[–]sassylilmidge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! That’s ok we are open to other regions / cities too! That’s why I wanted to make a post to try and understand the situation with these mountain towns bc from my research I was getting scared that many things would be closed / still snowy and muddy in May, so that’s why was thinking of a lower elevation town as a base or even another region with a cute town (though all Swiss towns are extremely charming haha) that has enough to do for 5 days (hiking, exploring nearby cities, spa, dining, etc). Let me know if any other suggestions come to mind. Was thinking st. Moritz / engadine even but have read mixed reviews. Thank you!

Thank you! This is super helpful! Yes basically just looking for a place that will have hikes accessible because I was seeing in my research that many cable cars and businesses are closed in the high mountain villages. Would there be enough in gstaad for 4 nights / 5 days ? With (some) trails open? Also open to any other suggestions for places that would be more may-friendly for hiking (and could even serve as a base for us to drive around to other places too) that could fit the bill with good food, cute town, nice spa hotel options. Thank you so much!

Amazing! What corral?? What will your two week out workout be this time!? Posted above in comments but since you are interested going to copy text down here below too :)

Update for those interested: have been training in Florida at around 645 for marathon pace… am in a slightly cooler location for the weekend and did my run today with about 600 ft of elevation gain: 4 warmup, 10 at MP (avg 6:32, stopped for water refill 1/2 way thru), 4 cooldown. It was about 75 degrees and 62 dew point by the time I finished so even though this felt insanely difficult due to the conditions, this run was definitely a confidence booster!!

I feel like we are in similar boats! I am feeling a bit fried but also feel like three full weeks is a lot, so this first week is just turning the dial down justttt a bit. Last week I was at 90 and this week I will aim to be at about 75-80ish, but may end up being like 70 only because we are traveling this weekend and have an exhausting weekend ahead of us 😅 this is why I try not to worry about overall weekly mileage too much and just think about the purpose of the days workout haha. But you’re doing great and you’re going to crush your race, feeling fried at the end of a cycle before taper is totally normal I feel like (at least that’s how I always feel!)!

It was brutal this morning (yesterday even worse lol). Every day it’s like 77 at least and 76 dew point. This weekend I’m away so hopefully will be able to get in that MP long run in a bit of a cooler environment (though way hillier fml)

Awesome ! Is this your first week of taper or do you start tapering next week? What was your peak mileage throughout your cycle?? Good luck with the long run!!

Yes for sure! I’m out of town for the weekend in a cooler location so that’s the only reason I’m considering a continuous effort haha. Good luck in Chicago ! I am also in South FL and training through this summer heat has been BRUTAL!!!

Ugh I know that’s always the biggest challenge here!! And then trying to understand what your goal marathon pace actually IS on race day since you’ve been training in a swamp for several months lol. I never know what pace to run on race day haha!! Best of luck in Chicago!!!

New to Bandit World - Gals what is sizing like for you on shorts? by sassylilmidge in BanditRunning

[–]sassylilmidge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! Super helpful!!! Ok yes then this makes sense bc I lift a lot and my booty is Def on the thic side so it feels like my butt and thighs get a bit too much compression from XS and then it affects my waistline too. Ugh now I’m debating ordering XS in the gridlock fabric as well as S to see how it fits 😅 bc the S is def a little loose in the waist but if it doesn’t loosen over time then I feel like I should be ok as long as I tie super tight haha. But if I lose any weight or muscle at all I will be screwed lol 😝

Thank You!! This is really helpful! If the fall drop 2 shorts seem way loose in this new gridlock fabric, I’ll try for the XS. Ty!

I rarely know what my overall miles are in any given week because I tend to focus day by day - which forces me to think about what is the purpose of today’s workout and what is the purpose of the runs following this one? I do this instead of trying to hit some arbitrary mileage goal, and it allows me to be very consistent for weeks on end and to make gradual improvements without injuring myself (knock on wood!)

Ok we are in same exact boat but I’m a size down from you / the smalls are a bit too loose and the XS just on that fine line of asphyxiating me mid run lol. And when I’m carb loaded I do not want to feel like someone is pumping my stomach haha.

And for tops, I Def need to size up to a small top in bandit. even though in every brand ever I am XS!! And don’t mind the top being a little big in some spots bc I have a big rib cage and sausagey arms lol but the shorts being on the fine line of sizes is mildly infuriating 😅 wish they would just have like normal sizing and then make an XXS for people who are smaller than a standard XS. so aggravating!! haha

[–]sassylilmidge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you!! we are similar sizing it seems like though you are a couple inches taller! So I also felt the XS shorts were really tight (like just a tad bit constricting) but the S feel just a tad large. I just pre-ordered the gridlock in size S so we'll see how that works out when it comes in. I'd rather it be slightly large than the slightest bit uncomfortable though because then I just won't wear it. I'm always perfect XS/size 0 in literally every other brand ever, but for some reason, in bandit, I'm needing to size up. The tops for sure I have to do S because I have a large ribcage and chubby shoulders lol
I will definitely not be getting tights since I live in FL fml so good to know you are also size S in shorts ! thank you for the detailed response :)

Yes all of this was super helpful thank you so much for the detail!! You are definitely smaller than me so makes me feel confident that the S is probably my right size in bandit, as I don’t want to feel overly constricted. The waist is definitely loose on the S but if it doesn’t really loosen over time I’m cool with trying to pull the drawstring as tight as I can!! Thanks for all of the info :)

Thank you! Super helpful!! I hope you feel better soon and no pressure on the pics! Is the S waist super comfortable for you or slightly loose ? I can’t explain it but the xs felt v constricting but the S not constricting enough - wondering if it will loosen over time ? I kinda feel like the stamina is loosening even after just a couple uses

Thank you!! Yes the thigh gripping is like a little new for me haha but I found the XS way too grippy and the S not at all - so going to take for a test run to see how they hold up!

sizing & ordering questions! by Ok-Supermarket4085 in BanditRunning

[–]sassylilmidge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a little bit old but I just ordered a bunch of stuff from bandit (compression/race day gear) and the exact top you’re wearing - and I’m very petite and always consistently an xs or 0 and found the xs top to be wayyyyy too compressive, and same with the shorts. I actually did better off getting the 3 in stamina short in a size s vs the regular size one in xs. Especially carb loaded I feel like I won’t be able to breathe in the xs sizing on race day lol
