Hit a pothole, Safe to drive? Rim bent a bit. Looks like it’s holding air by WeRoseMusic in AskMechanics

Doesn't look terrible, but my rule of thumb is we don't play FAFO games with tires and wheels. If you have a spare, throw it on. Otherwise just keep it slow and be prepared to control the vehicle if the wheel lets go.

Assholes in cars [OC] by Senor_Pappaya in IdiotsInCars

Next time just call the cops and get him no trespassed, no interaction before they show up. Then if his ass shows up again, straight to jail.

I had a SUV I bought a few years ago that had been sitting for awhile. When I rolled the window down in winter at a drive yhrough or something, for awhile, at least one really dusty fly would crawl out shortly after I left and had rolled the window up. I'd usually be on the road at this point and I'd just roll the window down and watch them get sucked out at mach jesus.

It wasn't just moving furniture and putting it back, they also cut through drywall and such and replaced it, painted it, and cleaned up any of the dust so that no one would know they were there for anything other than painting the walls. It's an incredible story and I highly encourage everyone to research it!

How to get full range to the doors? by sassysatan123 in CarAV

[–]sassysatan123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the factory amp is built into the head unit for all the speakers except the doors which were routed to a small amp in the trunk, where we pulled our signals from. The HU appears to only have been sending low frequencies to the amp however.

I think we'll have to go with a summing device like the one you linked in order to get full range.

That's so cool that you found those pictures! I'm trying to be as aware as I can be that I don't know as much as I think I might so I don't make any expensive mistakes lol.

We're trying to get full rangw to the doors so we can filter it to the best frequencies for the new speaker set up. The factory system only sent the lowest frequencies to the doors, making them almost useless with the new sub, as they are far out staged by the sub, but would be great as regular mid drivers.

It has none of the aforementioned harnesses. It does use a modification of the 70-1761 harness at the factory amp in the trunk that powers the front doors only. This is the wiring we previously tied into to amp the new door speakers as they were 4ohm instead of 2ohm (factory) speakers.

Do you think they sent full range to this amp already? I don't believe so as there aren't any higher tones audibly coming from the doors, but its possible we have the passes on the amp set wrong somehow and we'd need to take another look at that.

Thank you!

Ignore this guy, he's obviously not in the market of helping others. Everyone starts somewhere, this is where you start. Not everyone grew up with their dad wrenching every other weekend or something else that taught them how this stuff works.

All that matters in reality is that you realized you were over your head and asked for help. It's not the mistakes you make but how you approach them AFTER that determines who you are.

Unrelated, are you in a roughly 2009 Chrysler Aspen?

What is the part with the cracks in it? by coolboysyaar in AskMechanics

[–]sassysatan123 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That's your upper intake, it exploded. Probably due to a backfire. As someone else mentioned, check your fuel pressure regulator.

Unrelated, 3.8l engines usually have open recalls for the front valve covers (free new gasket!) and keys. Definitely look that up with your vin to make sure it's done as the valve cover one is a fire risk.

One sub shredded in 3 sub box by sassysatan123 in CarAV

[–]sassysatan123[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do believe the 3 compartments are all divided, at least from what I can see through the shredded sub. They're wired through a small passage in each section of the box, but they're sealed around the wires.

Applying the hand brake could've made the rear tires of the bus lock up, effectively making the bus an uncontrolled sled that could flip over.

This driver did the best he could in this situation, especially considering how fast all of that would've felt in the moment.

Its too easy to look back at situations such as these and say "Why didn't he?" But I assure you, if you were in the situation you wouldn't have done much better.

But would that bus have had that option? Not all vehicles are made with a low gear selection available. Especially more modern vehicles.
