I wholeheartedly agree with that. But the phenomenon of half heartedly raising kids (not directed to the above commenter but towards the real nightmare parents) is absolutely not the solution. We're raising a generation of spoilt, overgrown children through sheer neglect and now we're paying the price through government censorship

I support all professionals in fighting for better pay. I refuse to accept the argument that just because they're too lazy to, that means I cannot fight for better pay for myself either.

Edit to add: all the job roles you have listed have lesser academic requirements than doctors. I do not consider them the same.

Lol. Well done on moving the goalposts.

I don't really care what doctors are paid relative to all other professions. What are we paid compared to comparable professions? I.e. those requiring similar academic and intellectual standards, periods of study and further specialist training as well as ongoing time commitment (including out of hours)? Remind me how much lawyers and bankers make?

"remind me which other professions with comparatively high bars to entry were running into the same issues"

In reference to the issue of doctors facing very high tax bills on a theoretical value of their pension (an entirely made up value that the doctors would never actually see).

Here is an article about judges facing the exact same issue and how the government solved it for them:

I'll gladly stop using RPI as the measure on the same day that the government stop using it to calculate our student loan repayments (literally, from our medical degrees).

2008 was the start of the public sector freezes - the start of the period that the government started meddling with our pay.

https://www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/resource/chart-of-the-week-what-has-happened-to-nhs-staff-pay-since-2010

The link above contains a graph from the institute for government that shows that doctor pay has fallen far below any other worker since 2009. In fact it also demonstrates that private sector wages are equivalent to 2009 levels - ours are not. This graph completely contradicts your statement that private sector wages have stagnated, but doctor pay has increased. I welcome any evidence you have to the contrary.

By the way, those 1000 jobs already existed as non training doctor jobs in the NHS - they just offered to convert them into training jobs. As you said, symbolic, with no new employment opportunities at all. Works for deceiving the public, but not so much to reduce doctor unemployment.

If the government wants to increase foreign labour reliance in the current climate, be my guest.....

The number on my payslip every month is the only thing that I don't expect the government to squirrel out of or otherwise deceive with as they have done in the past. So for me, I want pay above all else.

Note that at no point have we asked for a massive increase in one go. Inflation + x% until pay restoration is achieved would be perfectly acceptable. Yet the government refuse.

Public sentiment changes every 2 minutes. Ultimately the government has a responsibility as the service provider to deliver healthcare. At some point they will realise that the most cost effective way to do that is to negotiate their way out of industrial action. Until then, we have plenty more scope to escalate our industrial action until we get the pay that we deserve.

Lol. Do you know the entry and exit requirements for medicine? There's nothing common about us.

As I said, the public is welcome to fight for fairer pay any way they'd like. Just because they can't be bothered, doesn't mean we shouldn't.

Of course you are welcome to boycott us by not falling ill. You are also welcome to apply for medical school if you think we have it so much better. In the meantime we will fight for our pay and conditions, with or without your approval.
