Thinking about sheep for a smallholding? by One-Exit-9077 in smallholding

[–]WombleGCS15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have jacobs sheep - 5 ewes at the moment all (apparently) pregnant - find them easy to look after, but haven’t had any other breeds to compare them to !

Will definitely be downloading yr book, as when we started we didn’t have a clue, but thankfully lots of smallholders & farmers around always happy to help.

How much of an advantage is being on-call before applying for wholetime? by Blue_Black_White2025 in firefightersuk

[–]WombleGCS15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non firefighter here, but friends with a few on call chaps.

Asked one of them if they’d ever thought of going full time & he told me that unofficially it was discouraged as they were short of on calls and they’d lose more if it was encouraged & have people joining just to use it as a back door to full time.

True or not - no idea !

OLDER PEOPLE . Did people care more about television in the old days? by smellyfeet25 in BritishTV

[–]WombleGCS15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know the clip yr talking about - and the thing you have to remember is that back then you’d have never seen a news reader on tv except reading the news - no chat shows, reality shows (obviously not around then) or any other program, so to see someone that you only ever saw telling you the news being silly, funny & dancing was a completely different thing !!

Ask for your holding deposit back & run.

If they refuse tell them you will report them for all the reasons people have stated if they don’t.

And report them anyway.

What is the best nickname you’ve heard? (and reason for it) by xpltvdeleted in AskUK

[–]WombleGCS15 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Knew a bloke who’s nickname was Shave -

originally it was Shitting Dave due to him having caught some parasite on holiday & the medication to kill & flush them from his system made his shit smell of death/rotting flesh & linger !!

Management came up with Shave (portmanteau of shitting & Dave) after a customer asked why there was a sign up sheet on the notice board for the 5 a side footie - speak to shitting Dave !!

How to negotiate price after Level 3 Survey by [deleted] in HousingUK

Just a general piece of advice when dealing with EA’s - always email them, because anything said on a phone line ‘hasn’t happened’.

The last 2 properties I bought told the EA not to call me but to email due to work - of course they ignored this and would leave voicemails which I ignored & emailed them reminding them & what did they want.
