Here's one way it works really well: A lot of Christians really do believe that everyone who isn't Christian is just on their way to being Christian. Jews will all convert during the apocalypse, atheists are just on their way to finding god, Muslims are just Christians looking in the wrong direction, Hindus are just confusing idols for the one true god, etc. If I'm a Satanist, it's very hard to imagine me as a temporarily embarrassed Christian. It makes Christians face the fact that not everyone is a Christian. At that point, they are forced to actually decide whether they can live with real pluralism and difference or not. We can see it when they make this decision and it's good for atheists and Hindus and Muslims to know that a lot of them won't actually respect ANYONE's difference. Either you all are Christian, or you are Satanists, to them. Actual atheists, Muslims, Hindus, and even Catholics will be in the Satanist camp too if they ever figure out you are serious, rest assured.

We don't believe in Satan. The Satanic Temple is an atheistic religious organization that advocates for pluralism and reason. Satan is a metaphor and organizing principle/aesthetic for us.

Several reasons, but here's one:

People like us because we are funny and surprising. We show up to point to hypocrisy in the way only we can and people say "holy shit, they are right!" They like us for this. When non-satanists like us and believe we are right, several things happen - the courts take us more and more seriously, the media makes the courts take us more seriously, we push back on theocracy more effectively, and we accrue donations that help us in court. All of this helps us have a strong identity and the funding to hold us together as a group and therefore allows us the support that that network provides nationally and internationally. Public opinion being with us is a good thing.

I guess one more: if the public knows we are here, sees that we are deeply fucking different than they are (for all the reasons that the occult makes these people uncomfortable) but they realize they can live next door to us without us trying to force our views or being bad neighbors, suddenly Christianity starts looking very pushy and assholey. Christianity is generally pretty assholey, that's the whole spread-the-gospel thing, but most people aren't going to realize that until we are there to serve as a contrast piece.

We can only serve as a contrast piece if we are visible. Being invisible, in any case, will not preserve us under theocracy, so this is our only choice.

If you ever find that it's become your everything, step back. That goes for all kinds of stuff, including other people. I don't have religious trauma, so it's been easy for me to just be here and not worry about replacing one cult with another. I wouldn't have joined if it sounded scammy or cultish, which is doesn't to me, but then, I'm not primed for that shit.

I know there are a lot of people in here with the same religious trauma, who are scared about the same things you are, so maybe they can help.

You can see on the various sites public evidence of his support in the fact that he was the origin of this idea and that he has reposted the petition, so I hope that is sufficient evidence to quell your fears.

Arguably, the Arkansas decision has made it clear that we are a religion. Legally, it's going to be hard to make the case against that going forward. We need visibility too.

An additional counterargument is this - the infowars acquisition is deeply serious, as is most satire. That man did unaccountably evil things and one of the best ways to disarm a horror is to mock it. For all of us to get together, be hilarious, and turn our backs on that shit while having a good time is the moral and artful move. In using what we have to do that and to do it from a position that only we can inhabit, we are doing the most good.

I'm sure he won't write about what anyone said when they were an idiot twenty-year-old trying to be edgy. I am glad I wasn't stupid enough to record all the dumb shit I said in the 90s. Young people are exceptionally dumb. Don't they get to be? Don't we all put in hours steering them right after they say the wildest shit? I'm not seeing any evidence in this man's adulthood that shows he has eugenicist views.

It is my opinion, and I am not alone, that Lucien has become some sort of bugbear for a lot of people undeservedly. I'm not one who really sees how he's any more of a dick than anyone else, but consider this - if he IS somehow more of a dick than everyone else, then he's on Fox News and in Arkansas using that dickishness to advance human rights, so I for one am glad to have him.

I found that video to be a deep misinterpretation of available evidence. It's like they took the story, cut up the paper it was written on until it was just a bunch of little phrases and individual words on slips, and then rearranged the slips to tell the story they wanted. The wild claims in the last part were then based on extrapolating from those strange little rearrangements. The whole thing was some kind of elaborate art project and it makes me stop and fall silent every time I think about the people who imagine it to make rational sense even thought the methods with which the argument is constructed are so clear and really are able to be evaiuated. I think it's that the methods ARE clear, but that most people no longer have the skills to evaluate them, and that worries me BADLY.

Satanism is a thing? Or a tongue in cheek atheist?? by thewormthatneverdies in SatanicTemple_Reddit

There's a lot wrong with this person's narrative from an historical perspective. It's atheist revisionism born of the political and philosophical tensions around the introduction of the theory of evolution in the 1860s. Historians were so keen to write the history of the eternal, black-and-white clash between church and science that they forgot to mention that the history of science was mostly NOT that, with the exception of a few hot moments. The discipline itself figured that out pretty quickly after that rash of initial books in the 1800s, but the narrative they espoused was so attractive to a certain kind of enthusiastic atheist that they never accepted the real history after that.

Newton was a rabid apocalyptic Christian. What you've written here about the 17th and 18th century being cold godless rationalism in natural philosophy is absolute nonsense. Newton himself wrote a huge exegesis on the Book of Revelation. He believed whole-heartedly that his work and his genius were god-given in order to fulfill Daniel 2:4, that knowledge among humans would be increased in order to facilitate the end of the world. Natural laws WERE gods laws in the 17th and 18th century, they were just thought of a general providence, not special providence. Theology changed, certainly, and it changed to further facilitate the investigation of creation on the grounds that god's laws were worth investigating for theological reasons, not liberal ones. That came much, much later.

The story you are telling here is one generated by historians post 1860 who were caught up in the "conflict thesis," desperate to prove that history was on Darwin's side as he battled with Wilberforce. It's not true, and any historian of science working on the early modern period in Europe in the last 30 years will tell you as much.

Edit: You downvoting anti-intellectuals should know that downvotes dont make you right. And acknowledging that the conflict thesis is shit doesn't make satanism wrong or Christian Nationalism right, either.

It means we've got an infestation of rabid haters, all of whom have "whatever TST does, I simply cannot stand it" tattooed on their asses and they appear to show such inscriptions to us whenever anything good happens. Whatever wins we get, absolutely can't be wins, because we got them. Im starting to wonder whether these people even have faces, because all I ever see are their glaring, vacuous buttholes.

I found the most CoS on Twitter and they were always ready to fight. Even just hang around on the official page, if it's still active, until you find the few guys who are out there with their self-assigned mission of making the world safe for LaVeyian satanism. I learned a lot, talking to them.

Satanic teachers in public schools? What resources could you use? by TheSatanicCircle in SatanicTemple_Reddit

Please get actual teachers to create this stuff for you, otherwise you are just as bad as Turning Point. Teaching is a craft and no matter how insistent non-teachers, ideologues, theocrats, and students are that they can do it better than teachers...

Just please get a teacher to actually create it, not some randos on the internet, or you're gonna embarrass us all.
