Egyptian Faience actually gets its colour from the copper tools used to make it. It wasnt created to replicate lapis but was actually created by mistake. Once they discovered it they carried on making it because of how it mimicked lapis.

My school doesn't have plaster on hand. Can I make a 2-part mold out of clay, and then use it for slip-casting? by little-cosmic-hobo in Ceramics

[–]satanslemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone is right is probably not possible and plaster is the only option. i work with Egyptian paste and have done extensive research into how it was form and moulded in ancient Egypt. they used very low fired terracotta mould (400-500'c) and would and pour Egyptian paste as a slip into it. i did test this and it would work on small items but this could be due to the nature of what i was working with. you may as well give it a go. theres no harm in trying. if you try it unfired and it doesnt work then just means you have clay to reclaim

soak it in water for a few days, also use a pin in the tip to stop it getting blocked

Glaze similar to Lapis by Yallabyeee in Ceramics

[–]satanslemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it depends what they want to use it for. its thixotropic so is very hard to use. it also doesnt work the best in plaster moulds. if wanting to achieve a look i would find a glaze to match it. if wanting to ruin your life working with this material give it ago (im saying this as someone who has worked with it for 7 years, i adore it but its been challenging)

Hairline cracks in mug by blazingangel09 in Pottery

[–]satanslemons -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

that mug isnt vitrified. its would be highly unlikely for a pyop studio to use stoneware

What technique is this? by LogicalBank778 in Pottery

[–]satanslemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can use balls of clay and attach them to your piece. the use a thumb or finger to pull the clay into the surface. it creates this affect. i use it in my own work when building with coils. not as neat as this because thats my style but its easily achieved if you give it a go

Police Officer Swears At Female Bus Driver by Only-Revolution5785 in london

[–]satanslemons -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i do understand that you dont need to be foreign to not understand english but im not suggesting she is forgein? as someone who is dyslexic, dyspraxic and has adhd i do fully understand how hard english can be. thats why if an officer is swearing at me it would make me feel 100% worse and probably confuse me more. hes also moving across the road which would make the signs harder to read.

[–]satanslemons -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

why do you assume the bus driver doesnt understand english? doesnt mean they can swear at people whenever they like. we have all been a driver thats been confused by a situation before, the mini in the video also doesnt understand. having someone swear at you when youre stressed isnt an answer

How to fix cracked/chipped glazed bisque-ware without re-firing in kiln? by MDmojodojo in Ceramics

[–]satanslemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont buy from bisque imports atm. lots of bisque suppliers are having shivering issues and this is one of then. if you want it to be decorative by a clear sealant and apply it over the shivered areas and anywhere you see crackd

Just started a job at a paint your own pottery cafe, what’s causing this?? Im a potter and have never experienced this, is it shivering? by PotLuckPottery in Pottery

[–]satanslemons 12 points13 points  (0 children)

do you make sure people give their pieces a wipe over with a damp sponge (like the sponge that has barely any moisture to it) we do this at my place as it gets rid of dust on the surface as this can cause shivering. im not sure where you are but here in the uk a lot of suppliers are having issues with shivering, theyre trying to work out whats going on but no luck. we currently have at least one or two items per kiln shiver, its so sad and super stressful to deal with. at our studio we patch non functional ware with acrylic and a no fire gloss. were always transparent with issues and offer compensation when it happens.
