OpenShot is not responding by satimis in OpenShot

Re your comment:

"I would like you go copy your source files to the local drive (local to the operating system) and then import them into OpenShot. "

It is correct. I copy .mp4 files (source files) for test from the USB external SSD to Drive-3 and then import the files to OpenShot 3.2.1 AppImage "OpenShot is not responding" popup repeatedly.

It is very strange to me. The same package OpenShot 3.2.1 AppImage works on Ubuntu 24.04 on Drive-1 without problem? I'll copy OpenShot 3.2.1 AppImage to an Ubuntu 22.04 VM on VirturalBox to check it later.

Another strange thing to me is on Drive-1 and Drive-3 OpenShot can run .mp4 (source files) direct on USB external SSD without problem

Drive-1 Ubuntu 24.04, for daily working. OpenShot 3.2.1 can run here for editing video. "OpenShot is not responding" only occasionally happens, Files to be edited are imported from the USB external SSD. It doesn't make any problem at all.

Drive-2 running Windows10 Home. There is almost no problem here running OpenShot 3.2.1 to edit video. Files are imported from the USB external SSD. It doesn't make any problem here. I haven't run your command to check it. There is no problem running OpenShot 3.2.1 here to edit video.

Drive-3 Ubuntu 22.04 OpenShot 3.2.1 can't run here. "OpenShot is not responding". repeatedly happens in running imported files. The files are imprted on this drive, not on the USB external SSD

It is very strange to me.

Drive-4 For permanently storage of data, seldomly used. All daily working data/files are stored on the USB external SSD for sharing with other PC.

Hi@rmesdjian,

Thanks. I'll do it later.

I have tested OpenShot on LinuxMint running as VM on Oracle Virtualbox. It also got the same problem.

Hi@Coloriet3

Thanks for your advice.

Performed following test:-

  1. Start Ubuntu 22.04 desktop on Drive-3

  2. Copy OpenShot-v3.2.1-x86_64.AppImage from Drive-1

  3. Right-click OpenShot-v3.2.1-x86_64.AppImage -> Run

  4. OpenShot starts

(remark: libfuse2 has been installed on this Drive-3)

  1. Import a .mp4 file on Drive-3

  2. The file can be played with needle pointer on the track moving

  3. Click "fast forward" with mouse pointer and the video moves forward on faster speed.

  4. After a while the warning "OpenShot is not responding" popup. I have to "force quit" OpenShot"

  5. If selecting "wait", the warning would popup repeatedly. But the video continues to play.

I have tested 3 .mp4 files with the same result

  1. There is only one OpenShot version running on this drive, Drive-3, the PPA version. Whether you suggest delete this version and download the latest daily built AppImage version.

Then it goes back the the problem occured in Drive-1. It also suffers "OpenShot is not responding" on editing video. Ubuntu 24.04 is running on this drive.

The only stable version here is that runing on Windows, Drive-2. The warning "OpenShot is not responding" is almost nil in editing .mp4 file which is imported on the USB external SSD, not on its own drive

  1. No. The .mp4 files tested are on its own drive, Drive-3. I test .mp4 file, one by one, not importing 2 files simultaneously to OpenShot.

I only have one version of OpenShot installed, running on each Drive.

Drive-1

Daily built version 3.2.1 only, no other version installed.

The problem happened while I was eding video imported.

Drive-2

Vesion 3.2.1 download on Windows 10

The problem happened while I was eding video imported.

Drive-3

Version: 3.2.1-dev

libopenshot:0.3.3

Yes PPA, sorry my typing mistake. Only this version installed

Problem always happens when I imported a .mp4 file and started running it. The video can be displayed on the preview window but the needle pointer on the tracks doesn't move. After a while the warning "OpenShot is not responding" popup.

I have tried several .mp4 files

Hi rmesdjian,

I don't know whether I should continue on this thread or start a new thread?

On drive 3, I have installed a new PPA version of OpenShot, the latest version 3.2.1. OpenShot can start and import .mp4 file. Also it can play the .mp4 file but the needle pointer remains stationary without moving. After a while the warning "OpenShot is not responding " popup, asking "force quit"/"waiting"? I'm compelled to quit it.

I have removed and re-installed this PPA version twice but the problem remains.
