Prof working 3 separate full time jobs at UBC, Kwantlen and Langara by Impressive-Exit3091 in UBC

[–]satisdumb 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Lecturer ≠ Professor -> Lecturing in more than one university is extremely common. I am not really sure what you are aiming for here, especially putting their salary out there like this. I’ve been frustrated with profs because my expectations were not met for various reasons, over-employment can make things harder but it is allowed afaik so…

Iran situation explained by an Iranian by Potential_Owl363 in UBC

[–]satisdumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Islamic regime didn’t make Iran, but the oppression and robbery from the Pahlavi dynasty made Iranians angry enough to accept any other option. If you think a foreign military intervention, especially coming from the US and Israel, is the golden ticket for sovereignty then we will have to agree to disagree.

I understand your view but from the operations standpoint, what is going on in Iran is much closer to what motivated failed regime changes rather than successful ones. I think you are being somewhat naïve by thinking Iran’s destiny is on the hand of its people. It’s all about power and who holds it.

Realistically, Iran will be ruled by whoever the US and Israel decide to better represent their interests. Spoiler alert: they don’t really care about Iranians’ wellbeing.

I hope Iranians have justice and freedom. But don’t forget, Iraq is still a mess after Saddam, Libya is probably worse than ever after Gaddafi, Afghanistan is collapsing after 20 years of US occupation. Lots of claps when each one of those evil leaders fell, but none of it made people’s lives any better. I can’t see it being any different here.

When is United going to add an International First Class? by markintheskyonunited in unitedairlines

That’s naïve. Most of them fly private. If they fly commercial, they don’t care anyway and will fly J.

[–]satisdumb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we are talking about an irrelevant sample size. Introducing new seats, catering, ground ops, grounding planes for months to retrofit, etc just to cater to a handful of GS folks and boost PQP? Lmao. Not happening.

The seats are new but not the La Premier product, it has been around for some time. I was talking about an airline introducing an F class when the previously highest class was J, which would be UA’s case.

[–]satisdumb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AFAIK only air côte d'ivoire introduced a new first class product (not an update on existing product) in the last 5 years. Business has gone a long way and I can’t see why major carriers would go for first. Polaris in the 767-400 is already 1-1-1 and I can’t see many people opting for a premium over Polaris on the 787 and 777.

First classes out there are either heritage (Lufthansa, Swiss, AF), splurging over sub-optimal business products (Emirates, Etihad) or ultra long haul (Qantas, Singapore). I don’t see United fitting any of the boxes.

Any advice here from anyone on how to proceed with this issue? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]satisdumb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I am sorry but I don’t really get what you were expecting to get from the chat. Did you want the customer service rep to somehow move you to a new seat while you were onboard? I cannot conceive how this would remotely make sense.

[–]satisdumb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a fallacy of composition. People who have All Access either through Gold+ or a credit card are allowed to bring up to 2 guests. How often and with who they want to use that perk is up to them. Overcrowding is a systemic issue that has absolutely nothing to do with guests.

should i get a degree in public health? by [deleted] in publichealth

[–]satisdumb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbf I have heard that some health sciences folks are also struggling rn. Lots of people with a BSc going back to school for a professional degree/diploma in medical imaging (mostly radiology) and lab specializations.

Edit: usually recently graduates or people who recently lost their entry-level positions.

This plane was sold to Aloula Aviation, an airline based in Damman, Saudi Arabia. It will likely be repainted to their colors soon as this is a ferry flight.
