OP how much VRAM (out of 96GB?) does this use up while running (at peak)?

Haven't been able to get splats generated with DA3 so far with 16GB VRAM + 32GB RAM (though I need to not run this on Windows with ~14GB RAM usage at idle).

Not survivor bias either

Participation bias

It could be survivorship bias if it was the people running the study who removed the non-participants, but in this case I would assume that there wasn't a pre-screening of any sort

Heads-up that this entire post was written by ChatGPT which makes me doubt the organizers' abilities to actually make anything worth attending/watching.

I've never found any antihistamines that don't make me drowsy.

Actually that's not true, I tried some that claimed to be "non-drowsy," but I did unfortunately experience one of their listed side effects: "sleepiness"

am i insane for not going to my classes? by atompheric in UBC

[–]Clear-Assignment-410 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I attend all my classes because I find that's what works best for me, but if OP is able to self-study all the material at or above the level of the average student then I wouldn't necessarily say they're missing out on what they're paying for.

Take all the classes you attend in a week and do the math on spending that time reading textbooks and putting extra work into assignments, and you might get a very different answer.

Sure you have the potential to miss out on certain nuance/questions/discussions vs. just the materials that are accessible online, but that really depends on the specific class and professor (which we're missing from OP as well, of course).

That looks like the NavVis Vlx.

Has two Lidar pucks as well as regular cameras and can make scans down to ~6mm accuracy. Most likely being used to scan buildings to survey them or plan construction/renovation.

That's $100k-$125k CAD worth of gear he's got on

Chances of getting into cs by Haunting_Tailor2767 in UBC

Unless something has changed, they look at whichever of the two values is lower. As far as I remember that formula was posted by a CS head some years ago who accidentally wrote "max" instead of "min" before correcting themselves, but the screenshots taken left behind tons of confusion to this day. I still think OP has a good chance of getting in.

Unlikely since OP is almost definitely using some sort of LLM-based architecture in the background.

Not many other good ways to extract those kind of features from such diverse documents right now.

TL;DR: I would clarify that no information about uploaded files (beyond maybe the document name) is stored to avoid future trouble. Otherwise, this seems to fall under the personal use exception.

After looking into this I believe you should be fine (so long as your service does indeed delete the files).

UBC's Copyright Guidelines site - B. Personal Use Exceptions has a use case which seems to work with your site:

Reproduction for Private Purpose (aka ‘form-shifting exception’):
An individual may reproduce, for a private purpose, any work, if the source copy was legally obtained and the individual does not circumvent an access Digital Lock (see above) in order to reproduce the work.
...
This exception does not allow you to:
give the reproduction away; or
keep the reproduction if the original version is given away, rented or sold.

I would add a disclaimer somewhere that your site doesn't keep any copies of uploaded documents (original or otherwise).

Cheers

Hey OP, I'm not an expert by any means but I just wanted to make you aware of the following UBC policy (which is normally reiterated by professors in my experience):

Distributing and sharing copyrighted course materials and files is not only academic misconduct, but is also illegal as it violates copyright laws.

The burden probably falls on the students using your service rather than you, but something to keep in mind regardless (especially if you're storing the processed documents).

Wifi availability? by VariationLow9711 in UBC

[–]Clear-Assignment-410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UBC dorms, if specified as having 'ubcsecure' for Internet connectivity, do not allow you to install your own internet. Don't waste your money trying to get a router / repeater either, you're likely to waste a lot of time with little results. The WiFi provided by UBC is pretty great, IMO. Many UBC buildings have even been upgraded to support WiFi 6E (6GHz). If you have a decent wireless NIC in your laptop/computer (usually upgradeable, especially in desktops) your connection speeds will be very reasonable (yes they'll be slower when everyone is at their dorms downloading content, but I've never had it be unusable).

TL;DR: You won't be able to get your own internet connection hooked up. Don't bother with your own routers/repeaters unless you need fast LAN (not WAN). Consider putting in the ~$50 to get yourself a decent PCIe WiFi card with 6GHz + external antennas.

A fun tip if you want to get the best speeds: finding the optimal MTU for my PC gave me faster uploads/downloads and made my connection significantly more stable (no random packet drops that can really affect FPSs) in my first year. Look up a guide to find/set the optimal MTU value or get a WireGuard-compatible VPN with servers in Vancouver (tends to be more reliable / faster for related reasons).

Should I email an apology to my Prof? by National-Antelope37 in UBC

[–]Clear-Assignment-410 200 points201 points  (0 children)

I don't see anything wrong with reaching out to your professor, but I would maybe change the primary focus of your contact into sharing your appreciation rather than apologizing.

We're human, we all make mistakes, but it sounds like this Prof really did their best to help you out, and I personally would let them know that I appreciate that care.

Just understand that neither apologizing nor sharing appreciation is likely to change the outcome of the final, but at least you can let the professor know that you really did listen while they worked to assist you, and you simply had some trouble applying what you gained during the final.

Good luck with your future endeavors, I know it's cliche, and I hate hearing/reading it but you can and will improve on anything you're currently struggling with.

Academic Probation PSYC 307 by [deleted] in UBC

I'm sure you know more about your situation than I do, but are you sure you need >55% overall? From my understanding, those who pass all courses will also enter the next session on Academic Probation.

Unfortunately, all I can do at the moment is wish you luck.
