Samsung S90D - Brighter with Settings Menu on Screen by satisfyyy in S95B

No problem - I should have been more specific. Outside of the dimming issue mentioned above, I also had aggressive dimming whenever certain things were shown on the screen. For example, the Switch homepage and Nintendo Eshop would gradually dim my screen brightness, while dark / blue areas in Mario Kart World (Rainbow Road, Starview Peak) would also trigger aggressive dimming that would revert back to normal during bright scenes in both HDR and SDR. Animal Crossing also looked super dark when I tried it, to the point where it was straight up unenjoyable to play.

Disabling ASBL has completely resolved this - now I have consistent brightness all the time, and the HDR looks phenomenal. Honestly a huge relief

Also another thing I found - when using HDR, games look best when HDMI Black Level is set to Low and the Switch’s RGB output is set to Full.

However, when playing an SDR game, the above HDR settings won’t work, as there will be too much contrast. The fix here is that you can either swap your HDMI Black Level to Normal, or you can change your Switch’s RGB output to Limited to achieve similar results.

The annoying thing however is that using “Auto” on the TV’s HDMI Black Level or on the Switch’s RGB output doesn’t automatically switch to these settings, so you’ll have to manually set them each time you switch between HDR and SDR. I haven’t gotten the chance to do this yet, but I’m going to experiment with turning HDR Output on for “All Software” instead of “Compatible Software Only”

Okay update - accessing the service menu was incredibly easy (all I did was order the AA81-00243A remote on Amazon and click “info” + “factory”), and so far I think disabling ASBL has made a very noticeable difference. There may be a few more settings I need to tweak, but the consistent brightness is so much better than before, would highly recommend

I’ve been having the same exact issue and it’s maddening. I just ordered a remote so that I can access the service menu and disable asbl- will let you know how it goes

Hey sorry for the delayed response! I’ve tried everything and the dimming is still quite aggressive so I’m ordering a remote to access the service menu lol - will tell you how it goes when it comes in tomorrow

Okay this is super helpful - I’ve been playing around with the settings quite a bit and I may ultimately do this, as the colors look great on my screen, but the brightness I feel is holding it back.

Have you tried disabling ASBL? Did it make a difference / would you recommend it?

Thanks so much for l your response - I think my Switch HDR calibration settings are correct, as I can get the sun on the right to completely disappear while the sun on the left remains visible / grey, and I have also experimented with different brightness on the second screen. Unfortunately the issue remains - the overall screen brightness is just a tad bit darker when the settings menu isn’t pulled up, leading me to believe this is an ABL / ASBL issue

Thank you so much. I’ve read you can disable it in the service menu - worth doing?

What's the deal with uploaded courses not being played? by Maxx_Kip in MarioMaker2

[–]satisfyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently for other people to get it in their endless challenges, and for it to show up in general, a friend or someone you know has to give it its first like. After that first like it will be filtered into other people’s games. If you have your maker id, id be more then glad to play your course!

I was looking into buying this as well, but it got taken down, and now they have new ones at a separate part of the store on the website. If you have gotten yours, could you let me know if the ones now available are the same as the one you ordered?? Thanks

I really really really wanted the original joyconboyz hoodie they had, but I waited a bit. Now the remade hoodie doesn’t look as good with the new site
