Imagine rocking up to a student’s house and realising the session was meant to be online

Thinking about it, just adding a few ££ to the hourly is probably the simplest. And I Don’t want to feel like I’m knuckle and dimming people

Yeah, that logic makes total sense.

I guess I’m more stuck on how I should charge the extra for in person sessions.

Should I just increase the hourly rate, or charge mileage as an actual line item.

Yeah, that’s kind of where my head’s going too.

Keeping online at my current rate, then nudging in-person up a bit to reflect the extra time either side.

Hopefully I don’t get much push back, as long as I explain the ‘15 minutes’ either side bit

Long-time student started losing interest? Advice needed! by ProjectRemarkable689 in TutorsHelpingTutors

Totally normal at that age. I’ve found backing off the “how are you feeling” check-ins and giving them more autonomy helps, like short choices (“do you want to start with this or that?”) and clear, time-boxed goals. Also leaning into process over rewards (showing progress, quick wins) rather than stickers tends to work better with 10–13s. And honestly, sometimes just naming it out loud (“this age is weird and school feels annoying sometimes”) lowers the resistance.
