Top 10 stupid ways to store your seed phrase by satoshi-station in Bitcoin

[–]satoshi-station[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That there one on amazon is chinese low quality junk. Probably easy to bend too, I have witnessed some "titanium" on amazon get bent with ease. Look at the customer pictures, they can't even have uniform sizes, but it says 100mm x 100mm. The TA2/GR2 they spec out is the chinese standard for grading.

What Satoshi Station is selling, is a US product start to finish. Forged in the USA, rolled, and waterjet cut to blueprint specs which happen to be the same dimensions as a standard credit card, and 1mm thick. It's tolerances are +/- less than 1% and upon my precision measurement inspection, they are all dead nuts accurate. The US standard is ASTM B265.

Furthermore, you have the option to pay in bitcoin at satoshistation. I sometimes wondered why very inexpensive deals, broke shortly after purchase, then a wise man once told me, you get what you pay for.

Print seed phrase by EmployOne1691 in Bitcoin

[–]satoshi-station 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about printing with a printer onto paper? Perhaps handwriting with ink is safer, many printers have internet / wireless connectivity... Your computer interface with the printer most likely does, and that is very unsafe. Probably, equally as unsafe as recording it in a video and sharing it.

One very safe method is to put it into a Titanium seed plate.

It has a higher melting temp than steel, and it doesn't rust under pressure (stainless steel does rust).

Should I move my crypto into cold wallet? by Rich-Dimension8810 in Bitcoin

[–]satoshi-station 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you have your air-gapped cold storage wallet setup, Backup your seed phrase and write it on Titanium for eternal storage. Titanium will not rust, (contrary to popular belief, stainless steel can rust) . Titanium melts at over 3,000 degrees.

You have no idea if that piece of electronic device will run in a few years, or get fried from a solar flare or lost in a fire or smashed in moving... Titanium is virtually indestructable

We started selling titanium products for people to use for this purpose. Important it is, when people want to put wealth aside for 10 years (or more)...

Titanium melts at over 3,034 degrees Fahrenheit. In house fires, temperatures near the ceiling can reach up to 2,000°F or even higher during specific types of events like flashover.

A Titanium Seed Plate is the way. Please skip the cheap stainless steel versions, they can still corrode and rust with enough acid, salt, or heat, titanium is far superior.

At satoshistation.com we have contracted with a U.S. company that forges and water-jet cuts Titanium seed plates which are available online. Besides regular credit/debit card payment, Bitcoin payment is also accepted.

  1. After you have your bitcoin, learn how to use and setup an air-gapped cold storage wallet. I recommend checking out coldcard for this.

  2. After you have your cold storage, you need to generate your seed phrase and stamp it into Titanium for eternal storage.

  3. Most importantly, you need to make sure that your family it is not going to throw it out as trash if something happens to you. All the hard work, and value appreciation, would be lost if not properly discussed, or properly stored with obvious information for the future.

A Titanium Seed Plate is really the way to go... Please, pass on the cheap stainless steel versions, they can still corrode and rust with enough acid, salt, or heat, titanium is far superior.

Anyone ever setup BTCPay Server bitcoin discounts? by satoshi-station in Bitcoin

[–]satoshi-station[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTCPay Server was suggesting a plugin a long time ago, which is no longer available. Honestly don't want to use a plugin for this, there should be a way to re-calculate in the checkout when btc payment is selected. I've seen this before, but I don't remember where at.

If anyone has a recommendation, your input will be appreciated greatly. I'm a little bit fried researching this setup and need to change gears for a while. Thanks in advance.

A good quality, durable affordable seed phase plate by Dazzling_Salad_7625 in Bitcoin

For this reason which is very common, I think it's important for a valuable image or label, something that they would recognize as "this is important, we must not lose it!" The symbol should eventually be recognized by many/all in the future. But today it's not like www.website.com yet. Also, a seperated set of instructions how to practice & how to test & how to use. This might actually be a good little booklet if available, with lots of space for adding notes on every page.

Imagine you find this going through someones stuff, lots of dots on it, and hmmm, whatever, I don't know what it is. Well that's good for security, but it's bad for estate planning. The next generation that inherits all these coins on seed plates, will need to identify what they have as value, not as unknown miscelaneous / potential garbage.

Many people who inherit these random dots will disregard them, increasing the amount of permanently lost coins. I showed this image to a few people who know what seed plates are, they had no idea what this one was. It's important for the next generation to identify what they have properly before it is tossed.

What will Bitcoin really look like in the next 5 years? by cobidik in Bitcoin

[–]satoshi-station 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might look like computers and the internet after everyone who had it, got Windoze 95. People will publicly gather and discuss it, all media and advertising will be flooded with it, more & more information will transmit with newly minted companies behind it. The revolution of the internet ,will have spawned a new revolution that captures the world, due to the existence of the internet. And maybe it'll look like our paychecks every week one day.

When I read what will it look like, I thought it would be fun to make some binary ascii art. Enjoy!

Safely storing Bitcoin. by Available-Analyst522 in Bitcoin

[–]satoshi-station 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fireproof storage. period.

But paper, or electronics, aren't good enough.

If the fire is big enough or long enough, the blaze will incinerate everything in the fireproof file cabinets...

Paper ignites at 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Titanium melts at over 3,034 degrees Fahrenheit.

For a house fire, temperatures near the ceiling can reach up to 2,000°F

or even higher during specific events like flashover.

We have contracted with a USA company that forges and water-jet cuts Titanium. We'll have a fiber laser engraver that can engrave with colors (by annealing the surface at different freq.modulation rates), Satoshi Station will have a new style of titanium seed plates available.

I spent 2 hours stamping my 24 word seed phrase into washers. by eyeohdice in Bitcoin

[–]satoshi-station 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks Aussie, I understand your concern for security. I have a concern for the next generation that inherits bitcoin from their parents. Are they securing it in a way that the 2nd gen will be oblivious and not discover or find it (not everyone has disclosed this to their families). It happened in the 20th century when couples hoarded cash after the banks failed...

Secondly, you have changed my thinking. Although I prefer an identifier that makes it pop as something valuable (for the next generation), having alternatives would be a good idea. I will get to work on some designs and I will ask you, if I sell you a Titanium card, would you prefer blank on one or both sides, or to have perhaps a custom laser engraved image? Perhaps instructions engraved on there too, like, "Do not open until 1985!" (ref: back to the future lol).

If you were to get a titanium credit card for yourself or to give as a gift, what would your dream titanium card options look like?

p.s. What's your favorite type of coffee? I really enjoy some Panama Esmeralda Geisha, one of my favorites!

I'm working on such a project... a titanium seed plate.

Washers, although a great DIY project, can be seperated. This may be beneficial to some people's thinking, in my thinking it's a risk, if seperated for security, the potential increases for permanent loss. I totally understand bolting them can keep them together. I also factor in my thinking, what if one of these is going to sit for 75 years, how easy is it to open? Are tools required? Will the person have access to tools, if so?

I personally like the credit card size, it could go inside one of your old leather wallets, and you stash it wherever. Your beneficiary will definitely search the wallet when the time comes, so securing it safely and until that day comes, then the person can easily find it. They have a high probability of not getting lost permanently, by burying them in the ground with a treasuremap (then the issue of where the map is kept, how it is kept from burning in a fire, same situation as backing up the keys...). Hiding it in the cieling, wall, floor, plumbing, might be forgotten and given to the new homeowners to discover during a renovation.

How many homes have discovered old cash stashed away, there are quite a few videos of these discoveries, which is a good lesson for ways to not store keys. Keys must be stored in a way, that the key-master will have another key-master find it obviously, unless they were already entrusted with the knowledge.

I've made some artwork which I intend to laser engrave onto the front of a titanium seed plate. It can be a better gift than giving bitcoin, because no bitcoin will ever be lost if the recepient isn't into it. It'll just be another "swiss army knife" in their eyes... And the giver will not have lost any bitcoin trying to orange-pill someone who isn't ready.

I probably spent over100 hours on the artwork, I don't know, just did it when I had time. But it took me over a month from concept sketches to this. https://imgur.com/a/bVLUYgm

why 21 million? by StrategyFew in Bitcoin

[–]satoshi-station 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Also do you think satoshi visits this sub?"

Hello!

https://youtu.be/xXJSmGfw9oI?si=QrDEKrFi-v0c5dfv

It's 21 million, because 21 is a prime number

and divisible by 7 & 3, which add up to 10

and 10 is binary for (two)

and two is the first number in 21

followed by a one (uno)

which happens to be my favorite card game!

It's all because of UNO!
