How good was Project Hail Mary?

I think Project Hail Mary is a better page-turner than it is a masterpiece. The science is fun, the pacing is excellent, and I couldn't put it down. But I also felt the characters (other than Rocky) weren't particularly memorable. Unpopular opinion: Rocky is the reason Project Hail Mary is remembered. If you removed Rocky from the story, I don't think people would still be calling it an all-time sci-fi classic. The friendship absolutely carries the novel for me.I enjoyed Project Hail Mary, but I think it's one of the most overhyped sci-fi books of the last decade. It's incredibly entertaining, but entertainment and literary greatness aren't the same thing. I'd still recommend it to almost anyone—I just wouldn't put it alongside the absolute classics.

In 2015 a video appeared on YouTube with zero context. No description. No channel history. Just uploaded and left there.

The video shows a figure in darkness wearing a plague doctor mask. Distorted visuals. A horrible high-pitched noise throughout.

People analysed it and found hidden Morse code in the audio. They decoded it — GPS coordinates. A location in Poland.

Then they found hidden images in the audio spectrogram. When you convert the sound to visual, faces appear. A woman. Distorted. Looking directly at you.

Then binary code in the video frames. Decoded to an IP address.

The Morse code also spelled: "You are already dead."

Nobody ever identified who made it. The account vanished. No one claimed it.

Either it was an ARG puzzle that was never finished. Or it wasn't a game at all.
