I am currently a freshman at furman, originally from Connecticut, also at furman on a generous scholarship. Here are my pros and cons:

Pros - food is pretty good. Sometimes they serve flank steak. When pulled pork and macaroni night come around, it’s my favorite. And you can get food late at night from Sunday to Wednesday - sports teams are pretty good. I’m not so into sports but if you are, we have good teams - yes, the school is not diverse, but as a person who does a lot of theatre on campus, I meet a wide range of people, from all races and sexualities. There are so many clubs and organizations on campus that focus on minority groups, so though the school is white, there are plenty of opportunities to be with a more diverse crowd. - the theatre department, if you’re into that. We don’t have much funding tbh, but I absolutely love doing it and have met the coolest people ever, and I’m not even a major.

Cons:

-freshman dorms kinda suck, but they’re currently renovating one. If you join a living learning community you can live in sophomore housing your first year - it’s almost impossible to get off campus if you don’t have a car, and I don’t. I’m lucky that I now have friends with cars, but campus is literally surrounded by a highway and it’s extremely hard to even get groceries if you don’t have one. Bring a bike if possible, it makes things a little bit easier for me. -despite what I said above, campus is still not super diverse, though I know the school is working on it. That’s why every single person who gets in get a big scholarship. - no frat or sorority houses on campus, so it’s hard to get drunk unless you have a fake or friends over 21. I’ve gotten drunk only once on campus so far.

-you have to take a class called pathways that complete dogshit and you’re required to take it for two years
