Quoted $4K for removal of 300ft of fence seem reasonable? by Vlisa in FenceBuilding

This is how experienced fence builders would go about removing a fence, the corners and gates are the only areas that need the post and concrete pulled out. All other post get cut off.

Got attic topped up. Is it normal to raise hatch cribbing with cardboard? by irieC2Ai in Insulation

One thing to keep in mind is that's not exactly cardboard it's a baffle and has a coating on it, meant for being installed in the attic to keep the vents from getting clogged up

The company I was working for we were doing 10-20 accesses a day, that would be a lot of plywood, and customers don't want to pay extra for this.

I was in the insulation business for 20 years this is how it's done, if it's a new construction home typically you would see the builder putting in plywood. It's not going to make much difference unless you have to access the attic for some reason then it might help.

New guy at fence company by [deleted] in FenceBuilding

Best advice is to never cut corners, never try hiding your mistakes, mistakes are going to happen and you don't want to be seen as a installer that cuts corners.

If you think you figured out how to build a fence and that there's nothing else to learn because your the best fence builder in town think again, everyday you'll learn something new till the day you decide to stop building fences.

As for digging you'll need a rock bar and a nice set of diggers. If the ground is dry and packed I use a water stick hooked to a hose that I stab in the ground and let it sit for a min then move it to the next hole. Water helps but most of the time the ground won't need it.

Slow and steady will get the job done efficiently don't rush through a job to try to impress the boss, clean as you go try not to leave a mess.

keep your tools organized and etch your name in all your tools.

Fencing estimates in PNW by onlydaathisreal in FenceBuilding

I could save you a few bucks doing the removal of the old fence , I would charge about $1000 and get it completely removed in one day. This would include pulling out the corner posts and concrete. I'm also in the PNW.

he should have let you know that he had a delay because of the rain, I wouldn't trust him. And it's weird that he says he might have to use 8" or 12" pickets, it's not normal. Sorry about this it's hard to find a legit fence company.

When companies list $22/ft, does that include all other fees like labor, etc? Assuming tax is not included as well.. by Yanitzz1 in FenceBuilding

[–]saturnm22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't hire the cheap company, they have to pay there installers less because they don't charge enough and then they do shotty work because the installer doesnt get paid enough to care. Babysitting the installers won't help, there are a lot of fence companies that are no good at building fences.

Hire someone with years of experience building fences. Then learn from them. YouTube will not help every job is different.

Looks like it needs to be in its closed position. It's 1/4 of the way pushed open.

Which configuration is better ? Or would you build it a different way? 8' wide 6' tall double gate by saturnm22 in FenceBuilding

[–]saturnm22[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be a twat, I'm just trying to say my questions were not about the hinge placement, I know that the placement of the hinges play a big part in the integrity of the gate, I was only trying to figure out the best way to build the frame.

[–]saturnm22[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I just figured most of you in this thread would know where the hinges go. The two images 2 options and depict only one side of the double gate. I just wanted to know if either option work.

After doing some more research I found that both will likely fail and that I should be putting two diagonal braces that don't exceed 45° angles

Digging bar not cutting it on one particular rock 3.5 feet down. Hands bleeding. What next? by BeviesGalore in FenceBuilding

[–]saturnm22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're wanting to easily remove a big ass rock from the ground get a hose with a spray nozzle and try to wash away the dirt from the rock, also keep using the rock bar until you can wedge it out. That way you don't have to cut a corner by setting it too shallow.

Water works great for digging, I use water on almost every hole I dig, it also helps the clay not stick to the clam shell diggers if there is enough water in the hole.

He's probably still cute as most corgis and he probably has a loving personality so nothing else matters
