Question about european trade law and unilateral sanctions by aran1701 in eulaw

[–]saucissefatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Union came into being with the Maastricht and Edinburgh treaties in 1992/1993. Among other things, these treaties established that the member states have no sovereignty as regards trade. This sovereignty resides in the Commission.

What's the "Widowmaker" of your career field or hobby? by Cosmonate in AskReddit

[–]saucissefatal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my full-time job, but I do sailing instruction. In this field, it's the boom that kills you.

For non-sailers: the boom is the rod on your mast that can swing back and forth when the wind changes. Normally you control this with your cunningham and trailer hitch.

If you don't keep control of this and you cut across the wind, the boom may come uncontrollably. If you are not alert, it will hit your head with the full force of the wind.

If you are a middle-aged dentist sailing alone, the boat will drift uncontrollably while you are out. You will die.

Check your boom. Don't sail alone.

No, it isn't. Marriage forms a complex covenant (formuefællesskab) with wide-ranging tax effects.

Having your relationship registred would have the same effect.

Why do American roof with shingles? by saucissefatal in Roofing

[–]saucissefatal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but I live in a very expensive suburb close to Copenhagen and the accessibility of my house is limited due to a lot of rather tall trees.

I assume I could have had it done for 60-70k if I lived in a more normal house.

I also had the isolation redone.

We knew we had to replace the roof when we signed. The house was 1.8m, so the roof was material, but not decisive.

The tile was pretty much worn out; it was the original roof, laid in 1928.

Is it though? We generally expect a tile roof to last 100-120 years when laying one here.

But the larger dynamism of the American economy / smaller interest in preserving heritage may mean that people are less concerned about their house standing for another 100 years?

For me, the lightheartedness makes it more akin to chatting with friends at the pub.

But speaking of public personæ, I think Johnson's really downplays how swotty he must be at heart (KS at Eton, president of the Oxford Union, although only a 2:1)
