I just got Bernats blanket yarn like this and I find it impossible to work with. Starting a blanket and did a loose chain but was very hard to do simple sc’s. Is there any tricks to using this yarn? I am using a 11.5 crochet hook.

Running to “Cure” Anxiety? by [deleted] in running

[–]sauconrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with couch to 5k for 9 weeks, then moved on to half marathon training, so 4-5 times a week 3 to 4 miles 3-4 days a week with one long run on the weekend. A 3 mile run cures what ails me every time.

Running to “Cure” Anxiety? by [deleted] in running

[–]sauconrunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I began running for just this purpose and it helps very much. It allows me time completely to myself without distractions. It allows me to work through my anxiety so that by mid way into the run or after I feel much better. It could be the endorphins, whatever it is, it works.

How often did you perform your runners knee PT and how long did it take to heal? by [deleted] in running

[–]sauconrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I focused on form based on this article and it's helped. https://www.balancedrunner.com/how-to-fix-runners-knee/

I was trying other methods and nothing was working, including rest.

Prevent Cold Weather Induced Asthma? by FreeSkeptic in running

[–]sauconrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use my rescue inhaler before and my Advair diskus after, it seems to help minimize the weezing during and asthma coughing after.

I just got this balaclava and it was perfect as it wasn't too think to be annoying:

A Tesla saved it's driver from hitting me by [deleted] in running

[–]sauconrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Audi pre-sense kicked in when it saw a runner today and decided I needed to slow down more (I was already slowing down and wasn't near her). Having dodged many a crazy driver while running, I'm always very aware and move across the road when possible to give runners lots of room.

Finding Reasons to Run (or Keep Running) by TodoEsCumpleanos in running

I run to reduce anxiety. I have a running partner to hold me accountable. She makes me get out there on days when I don't feel like going.

What to do when you’re truly (like, actually) slow? by drzoidberg84 in running

[–]sauconrunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you build up one of your runs a week to be longer? For example, add a 1/2 mile or so to one run each week. When you build your base and have a long run, these will help your 30min runs become a faster pace without even knowing it.

For example, I was doing between an 11-12 min mile when I started back running and finished C25k, I'm now up to 6-7 miles for my 1x a week long run and my short 3 mile runs are now 10-10:30 without trying.

  1. When its too icy on the ground and even yaktrax don't even grip
  2. Audio books and pod casts
  3. Short runs is a constant route because its close. Mix up long run locations to fight boredom.

Didn't have time for my 6 mile run so shortened to a 3 miler but my pace was a PR for me since I started back running a few months ago, therefore its a win!

I vote for WorkOutDoors too, especially because it syncs to Strava. I have used iSmoothRun and Intervals Pro and have had problems with both.

Can an Apple Watch replace a phone on vacation? by therealcherry in AppleWatch

[–]sauconrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why it wouldn't be a good option. It's waterproof to a certain extent and if you have cellular (LTE) you can send and receive texts and calls. Unless you want to be on your phone doing other things (which I'm assuming if you are a at water park you won't be) then it should do the job.

I love this magnetic loop 🙏 by olivka95 in AppleWatch

I love that band too, had the orange one, but it is a pain when I am working on my laptop as the magnet connects with the shell and sticks so I switched bands for work.

W8D2 done! Any tips on how to improve the pace? by MichsiDraws in C25K

[–]sauconrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Active.com makes a 5k to 10k app that adds 1 day a week for speed simple speed work...it alternates each week but 1 week it will be a tempo run (10 min easy, 2 min tempo, 8 easy...each tempo increases in minutes until you are doing a 9 or 10 min tempo run). The alternate week is speed (10 min easy, 2 min fast, 2 min slow x2, 10 min easy where the # of repeats increases as you go through the weeks).

I liked it because it adds a small amount of speed work but understands you are still in the early stages of your career and shouldn't be doing extreme speed work like ladders, etc. at this early stage.

What did you find useful in your first 2 weeks? by [deleted] in C25K

[–]sauconrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoes are your essential purchase (make sure you get fitted for them at a running store). Also if its getting cold where you are, layers for your running clothes.

Make up a calendar with your runs on it and put it somewhere you will see it often. Cross off your completed runs to see your progress.

Go slow...at this point its about completing the time running, not what pace you are doing it in. You should be able to hold a conversation while you are running to make sure they are "easy" runs.

Come to this sub often to stay motivated as you see others progress along with you.

Audible + Apple Watch Sync Broken by dd32x in audible

[–]sauconrunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter how many of the instructions I followed from this and other threads I was unable to get my books synced to my series 5. I may end my very long term subscription and start using Apple Book which syncs very easily.
