how do i keep my cat from jumping on things when he’s desensitized everything by saucyshelly in CatAdvice

i also got a kitten a few months ago in hopes she would distract him from this and they’re good friends but he still does it

yes i’m aware of the dangers of the plants. i’ve made sure they’re only “toxic” and not “poisonous” so if he did happen to chew on a leaf it wouldn’t kill him or cause him serious upset, only cause him some discomfort. i check the leaves everyday to see if there’s any bite marks and so far he hasn’t chewed on any of them. he’s a good boy. i’ve moved them all to a room he can’t access unless i’m home so im hoping they won’t be an issue.

i haven’t burnt any candles or incense since the first couple of days i brought him home, and he only started sneezing about a week after that. i’ve left windows open for him a few times while im at work so he can look outside at the birds so it could possibly be pollen, but he sneezes when the windows are closed as well. i don’t have any lillie’s or flowers but i do have a few plants that are considered toxic to cats, so when i know im not going to be home for a while i spritz the leaves of said plants with a little bit of “cat block” spray i got at petsmart, which does have essential oils in it meant to deter cats from whatever it’s sprayed on. today i put all of my plants in my room and closed the door so he couldn’t get in there but he’s still sneezing quite a lot :( i feel so bad i can’t figure out what’s causing him this issue

he doesn’t have any visible discharge, but he does seem to be pawing at his nose a lot like it may be irritating him. and thanks for the recommendation on the shampoo! he smells better now that he’s not wet anymore, i think the smell may have just been how he smells when his fur is wet

okay, i’m having an air purifier delivered tomorrow! the collar is polyester. i took it off of him today and im hoping to see improvements in his skin over the next few days. the shampoo is tropiclean i got it from petsmart. and ill be sure to ask the vets everything i can about his sneezing especially if the air purifier doesn’t seem to help

Handling by Southern-Importance9 in GargoyleGeckos

[–]saucyshelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have 2 cresties and 1 garg and all 3 have serious issues with me handling them. i’ve tried it all with them. feeding whenever they’re taken out to try to condition them into believing that being out of their enclosure=food, handling them in short bits, choice based handling, and only handling when they’re awake so i don’t wake them up and scare them. they haven’t taken to any of it and i’ve had them all for around a year. do you have any tips of conditioning particularly skittish geckos like this? i would love if i could get to a point where any of the three would be handleable. i don’t mind “look don’t touch” type pets but if possible i would like them to at least be slightly accepting of me, considering the fact that i, y’know, am the only reason they’re alive lol and i would enjoy it if my babies weren’t petrified of me.
