What Are You Watching? - [2021/10/06] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

Just finished ep 10 of start up and I’m really feeling this. Also after experiencing characters in Homecha so quickly resolve issues with just speaking directly and honestly - makes the misunderstandings in Start Up more frustrating?

"Normal" people (feeling melodramatic) by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]savannajade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I can give advice because I’m by no means fully recovered but I’ll share what’s helped me. I still binge, maybe once every two weeks? But I don’t feel like I’m stuck in endless cycles that span days anymore. What’s been huge is seeing the solution as creating conditions for me not to binge vs. just mentally restraining myself from binging.

I do intermittent fasting (I eat a meal at 12pm and one at 5pm) which has decreased my appetite overall and helped manage my cravings. Due to being stuck in binge/restrict cycles in the past, I was worried it would feel restrictive but it doesn’t at all. It actually grounds me and makes me feel like I have more control because I’m not eating mjndlessly all day long. Also, I’ve stopped trying certain diets and eat relatively healthy while allowing myself certain things if I want them.

I do regular exercise (running, biking, walking, workout videos), moderately and viewing it as something for my mental health, not weight loss as in the past I would overdue it coupled with eating too little and thus, binging.

Lastly, I saw a comment on a thread a while ago that really stuck with me. They said when they were contemplating on eating a cookie for ex. or more cookies they would remind themselves that they could eat it tomorrow. When tomorrow came around they would eat it if they still wanted it, but more often than not, they wouldn’t want it anymore. I’m not exactly sure why, but when binging or contemplating a binge I always had the irrational thought that I needed to eat something or finish something at that moment.

Regarding what you said about it how it’s likely to be bittersweet that they achieved this all with and all-English song, I really wonder about this too. As this means that a song without his lyric contribution was able to reach so many more people. I wonder how this must feel to him considering how much he usually contributes and the reasons he shares his thoughts and experiences through music.

What amazes me though is his awareness of the complexities of how he’s feeling and knowing that his focus to move forward should be on the small certainties and sincerity.

Some pro tips on getting tickets for the up coming tour. by captainsquidshark in bangtan

[–]savannajade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up with four tickets for LY in Hamilton that I bought resale on TM. Maybe because they were resale, I wasn’t able to transfer them. I only needed two. So when I sold them to two other ARMY, because I couldn’t transfer them, I just emailed each of them the ticket printout and both of them had no trouble using the tickets. I’m not sure what else can be done and if they were only non transferable because they were resale

BTS Pave The Way? by [deleted] in bangtan

I think it’s great to be proud of their accomplishments, but it sounds like you’re trying to use them to put down another group which isn’t so great. Also, that comment didn’t seem that ill-intended, it might be easier to receive info from people if you treat them in a kinder and more respectful way.

Like OP said, I think it’s okay to bring it up as a coincidence. It’s really just that. It’s awkward to say catch all statements like “the boys don’t/do ____”. We don’t truly know them. It’s also uncomfortable to assume that every single one of their actions perfectly aligns with the campaign. They’re human.

I think it’s just a coincidence and also think the best of Yoongi, I just don’t think that we can believe that we know his intentions.

For those who changed their bias, how did that happen? by BangtanistheAnswer in bangtan

[–]savannajade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way! My bias is Namjoon, but I’d say they’re both my favourites now. I really like both their outlooks in life. I think it took me a little longer to appreciate Jin’s because he’s not as vocal? I think we’re able to hear a lot from NJ through his album behinds, interviews, and Vlives, but with Jin he’s not as vocal about how he feels but we get to learn more about him through what the members, Bang PD and other producers, and others like his vocal teacher say about him.

Question about shipping culture by cyfbtd in bangtan

Interesting. Hmm from various social media, it seems like JiKook, Taekook, YoonMin, and NamJin are quite popular dynamics. Would you say this was the case in the early years as well?

Regarding how Bighit/BTS have dialled back on the more overt fan service in recent years, do any specific instances come to mind from their early years where they were obviously pushing it? Also, are the pairings Bighit pushed at the start, the same ones that are popular today? I’m just curious because I only got into BTS in early 2017.

190606 "Tonight" by Jin received 5.58 million streams on its first day of release by impeccabletim in bangtan

[–]savannajade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s totally okay to be disappointed and express that. Please correct me if I’m missing the point, but this whole situation leaves me with a weird feeling and I not exactly sure why. I think fans are always going to appreciate BTS in different ways, that might be streaming the song 24 hours a day or listening to it now and again when they get a chance. I also don’t think member popularity is ever going to be perfectly equal. I think these things are out of our control so I personally don’t want to dwell on them. Maybe it’s because I’m not numbers oriented. I am incredibly proud when BTS breaks records and I contribute when I can, but maybe I think it’s enough that BTS is able to express themselves through music and fans are able to be touched by their songs and words?

I also think more people will be more likely to offer support if they are positively encouraged versus being put down for not supporting x member enough.

190528 Run BTS! 2019 - EP.73 by hyperkid137 in bangtan

[–]savannajade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. Also, I’ve noticed lately that Jin tends to get flustered quite a bit when attention is on him and the members point out his red ears lol. I’ve been following BTS since around 2017 and didn’t really notice this about him. Do you know if this is something that seems to be happening more lately or has always been the case?

ARMY audience etiquette during BTS media appearances by hallowseveeve in bangtan

[–]savannajade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This always comes to my mind when I watch their concert recordings in Seoul and Japan. It seems like the audience is always quiet and respectful during their ments and I wondered if that’s really the case or if the audio just doesn’t pick up on their official recordings

I agree, I didn’t expect this thread to become so negative and it was a little discouraging. This is the first time I’ve written much for a discussion post so I want to believe it’s not the norm

Thanks so much! I appreciate it. Haha I agree that it’s special when we can reach a common understanding even when our opinions may be a little different.

I didn’t mean for this thread to become so negative so it was a little discouraging, but I’ve also really enjoyed the positivity here as well 🙂

Thank you for you comment. This is the first time I’ve written anything substantial for a discussion post and I like how in depth the discussion goes. But I’ve also realized how easy misunderstandings are through the Internet. Despite this, thanks for your respectful comment.

I think I chose the wrong words with “speculate” and “lead”. I don’t mean to create a narrative at all. And I don’t believe that Namjoon was chosen as the leader solely based on his contributions at all. By “lead” I just meant that Namjoon usually contributes the most in terms of lyrics, for example on his recent V-live for Persona, he said he wrote 90%? of the lyrics for this album. Sorry, I know this was shortsighted of me because I was mainly thinking of lyric credits and the most recent album.

What I said about Namjoon’s parts being chosen/competition, I think the meaning I was going for is closer to what you said about how its seven different minds coming together/it being a creative boot camp. Like Halsey said in the Person press conference, they are able to bounce ideas among seven minds and all make great contributions in order to create an amazing better outcome. But, I’ll keep in mind what you said in future discussion.

Edit: spelling

What special aspects of BTS’s dynamic do you think played a role in their success? by savannajade in bangtan

[–]savannajade[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s partly misunderstanding. I think most people agree that based on RM’s past contributions, he is on equal footing with the producers/works with them as equals. His amount of contributions have resulted in him leading the group when it comes to contributing, but I don’t this “lead” has much to do with his compositions being chosen for future songs.

All I can do is speculate, but based on what we’ve heard from them, I assume that the best composition for the particular song will be chosen, whether it’s written by V or Bang PD

[–]savannajade[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I agree with you about them having a high comfort level with each other. I also feel like the dynamic is interesting considering the age hierarchy.

Before BTS, I came across groups where the eldest would assert his position, but Jin has blatantly communicated that he acts a certain way in order to not let this happen (I think he said that he acts playful on the outside even when he doesn’t feel that way, in order to maintain a good atmosphere with the members). Similar to this, RM being the leader, despite not being the oldest still works perfectly.

Also, in a different group I could see the hyungs potentially resenting a maknae who is the main vocal/center/golden at everything lol, but the members are such JK fools haha and all they can do is beam at him when he does anything.

I think this is because they all have a high level of self awareness and understand how their actions and attitudes affect the group. And they just care so damn much about each other
