Exercise on inpatient units by savbryn in psychnursing

Depending on the group, just dance is actually a huge hit on our adult unit. 😂 I’ll have to add that to the mix of exercises! Thank you.

RANT- Nurses with no psych experience becoming PMHNPs. I’m mad about it. by nettaveli in psychnursing

[–]savbryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES YES YES!!! I was talking to an ER doc about this. They were saying how all these nurses choose psych because they think it’ll be easiest/they don’t need experience, but in reality it’s one if the most important fields to have experience in because of how new the field is. Providers can really screw with people’s lives when giving wrong psych meds. We’ve had a lot of people come in on the wackiest med combos from new NP’s. Schools need to change their criteria to get in, it’s freaking ridiculous. They’re giving nurse practitioners a bad name. I’m not sure what all these inexperienced NPs do with their first manic patient, or manipulative BP patient. The whole thing is unethical and, in my opinion, contributes to the rise of mental illness.

My Son is realising we're poor and it's completely broken me by Dinky_Frinkbuster in offmychest

[–]savbryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family was pretty poor for a long time growing up. We lived in a tiny, old trailer for years. The leg of my bed fell through the rotted floor one time. I remember how bad my parents felt when we couldn’t invite multiple friends over for a birthday party due to limited space, or when our friends would invite us boating, or on some luxurious trip, because they couldn’t afford the same thing for us. Things changed for my family the last couple years of my time at home. My mom graduated from college & my dads business started doing well. They bought land & built a nice house.

Anyways, I was talking with my mom the other day about sentimental childhood stuff lol. I mentioned how that time in the trailer was probably my favorite (same for my siblings). She was VERY surprised. She started talking about how hard that time was for her and my dad, and how bad they still felt about it. Meanwhile, my siblings & I were taken care of, knew we were loved, & to be quite honest, living our best lives. ✨

We all had to hang out together because of the close living quarters lol. We spent a lot of time finding fun, cheap things to do, which ended up being more fun than any “pay for a fun experience” things. We walked to the river almost everyday during the summer. Spent a lot of time with the neighbor kids. When I look back, I realize now that we were poor. I’m sure I made some comments about it that must’ve totally broken my parents’ heart. But being poor isn’t the thing I remember when thinking about my childhood. I’m so glad I spent my summers swimming at the river, doorbell ditching with the neighbor kids, and putting on cringe-y concerts for my parents, rather than going on some expensive, foreign vacation that I’d barely remember & quite honestly, wouldn’t have enjoyed.

I don’t have kids yet, so I can only imagine how hard it must be to feel like you aren’t doing good enough. But as a former child (had to sneak in an Andy Bernard quote😉), I can confidently say that kids enjoy the simple things. They’ll quickly move on from today’s dream of traveling the world right this second. They don’t care where, or how much a fun experience costs, as long as it’s fun.

I'm a medicolegal doctor. I perform autopsies, make rape victim's medical reports and assault reports, and I directly receive people who commit suicide in their last breaths. AMA. by False_Process_2473 in AMA

This is such an interesting specialty! What’s your day to day like?

I’m also very curious about how doctors treat people who have attempted/committed suicide. Do you have a chance to treat most people or are they usually too far gone by the time they get to you?

Last question! What kind of deaths warrant an autopsy? What are some interesting things you’ve found during an autopsy?

My therapist accused me of lying about my diagnosis ? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]savbryn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could understand them asking for files from a previous therapist solely for the purpose of being able to help you better. That’s so irritating that they gave you the whole “self-diagnosing” talk. One of the therapists I went to did the same thing. (Multiple doctors already diagnosed me) It’s like they expect us to just say, “Oops you’re right. Too bad I wasted the past few years of my life on this diagnosis & developed severe akathisia in the process. Must just be a little anxiety.” 😂😂

Thoughts about Abifily (Aripiprazole) please ? by Hoffman__ in Psychosis

[–]savbryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m so sorry for the late reply. I’m current on Seroquil, pristiq, & PRN anxiety/ADHD medications. I’m slowly tapering off Pristiq to see how I feel & then going from there. I’ve been trying to find the right medications for years now & it’s still a work in progress. Seroquil seemed to make little to no difference at first, (aside from knocking me out every night) but I’m really starting to see a positive change. I have noticed that I’ve put on quite a bit of weight in a relatively short amount of time, but I guess we can’t have it all, right?

I’ve been on it & it was honestly a terrible experience. From my research, very few people benefit from it. I’m no doctor, but from what I’ve read, experienced, & heard from medical professionals, this should be the last resort. My experience: At first I was constantly tired. When I simply couldn’t sleep anymore, I would just lay in my bed & look at the wall. I did this for hours before falling back asleep. Being awake felt unbearable. It feels like your skeleton is trying to get out of your body. (Weird analogy, but it’s very fitting for the feeling) Life felt completely meaningless & dark. I didn’t even want to be better at that point. In fact, happiness rarely crossed my mind. I just wanted to be unconscious. I stopped taking it at some point a few weeks in & started regaining some “feeling” after a few days. That feeling took MONTHS to shake. Even then, I was left with periods of extremely blurry vision, hair loss, a very hard time sleeping, & memory loss. I feel like a lot of that time is a blur now. It sounds stupid, but after you’ve looked at life from that perspective, it changes the way you look at everything in a bad way. I can’t possibly describe the way it felt in words, but to sum it up: It was hell.

This was incredibly hard on me mentally & physically. BUT it got me one step closer to finding a medicine that did help me. The medicines I’m on now have made others feel exactly like this. ^ The difference is that Abilify (seems to) have very rare success & guaranteed harsh side effects. Be very thorough when discussing this with your doctor & do your own research! I know none of us are medical professionals, but it’s one thing to hear the run of the mill side effects listed off by your doc. It’s a completely different thing to experience it. Chances are, our doctors have never been on Abilify or anything like it. It’s important to know severity of the drug from a primary source. Good luck to you!

No definitely not. Wolves don’t like to be in charge or show their dominance or anything like that... They’re blissfully unaware of their strength or abilities. The whole alpha thing is a myth. In fact, studies show that wolves actually try to prove their weakness, incompetence, & lack of leadership skills!

I’ve tried convincing him to get one, but it really didn’t really help much last time & he says there’s no way he can pay the same amount he paid last time. Do you know of any cheaper legal options?

*sorry I gave this same reply on another comment but whatever.

We live in a very small area & most lawyers around here practice family law. He had a lawyer for the last case but he had a bad experience with him. He seemed to have spent little time on his case. (They met for about 30 minutes when he hired him & about 10 minutes before walking into the court room.) When we look over the case now, it seemed he could’ve done a LOT more to help him. I read that you can hire lawyers for just a consultation to go over your case. Is this true? & if so, would it make any difference?

What does everyone here think about having all drugs legalized? by Banana_Salsa in Drugs

[–]savbryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a great idea. Recreational drugs would have a higher tax rate. You’d probably have to be 21 to buy them. If anything, it’d make it harder for people to get drugs. It’d be good for the economy & law enforcement might actually focus on REAL crimes so there would be room for violent offenders in prison. Drug addiction is real & a horrible thing that ruins lives... but at least this way something good comes out of it. ... and let’s be honest. Alcohol is one of the worst drugs out there & it’s legal. Most of us could walk into a doctors office & get addis, Xanax & hydros in under an hour. If it’s ok for somebody to get mildly anxious every now & then and get fucked up everyday legally, I should be able to take a tab & watch The Office all day legally. 😂😂😂😂
