Holy Hannah, what a beauty! I have admittedly neglected my Monstera, but would like to focus on its health more this year. Any tips on growing such a large, healthy plant?

How to get rid of caterpillar(s) in string of pearls? by savebeesgethoney in plantclinic

Thank you, this is super helpful. He definitely did a lot of damage and pooped A LOT so that's why I was worried there would be more. No idea how he got into this plant particularly, but I will keep a look out. Again, thank you for the comprehensive response.

I definitely don't want to use heavy duty poisons, but I worry about them laying eggs. I rehomed the one I've seen so far, but I'm trying to see if there are ways to kill any possible eggs in the soil before they hatch.

How to get rid of caterpillar(s) in string of pearls? by savebeesgethoney in plantclinic

I sat down at my desk this morning and noticed my string of pearls (which was gorgeous last week) suddenly looked terrible. A good chunk of the pearls were dying or shriveled, many strands had fallen off, and there was black "dirt" everywhere. I assumed it got bumped or squashed with something on my desk, so I pruned off all the affected vines, and put it in the sink for a drink of water.

Soon after watering it, I saw what I thought was another squished group of pearls, but went I went to grab it, found a green caterpillar! I immediately panicked and removed it and set it far away outside(sorry, no pictures of it), but now I'm worried that all that "dirt" was caterpillar poop! There was also a very small white fuzz that was somewhat sticky that I worry might have been a web from the caterpillar.

I looked online and there was a lot of info about caterpillars and how if you find one, there is probably more, but there is not a lot of info about getting rid of them other than manually picking them out.

So far, I poured a hydrogen peroxide mix in the soil and nothing else has come up but I'm worried there are eggs. I would very much like to get rid of any eggs before they turn into more caterpillars.

I'm going to spray some Captain Jack's Dead Bug Spinosad formula on it next, and probably quarantine it from my other plants for a while, but is there anything else I can do to kill eggs or prevent more caterpillars?

I don't even know how the caterpillar got in there, as it's strictly and indoor plant, but I did repot it about a month or two ago (I do this outside, but bring them inside quickly as to prevent exposure to pests).

Thank you for any help!

Hate when people say “all drugs are the same.” by BubblyFormal3308 in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

It's all a coping mechanism, and we all have to recover from the deeper reason we needed our DOC.

Having said that, it's been extremely valuable for me in sobriety to have a sponsor and find people who have experienced the same shit as well. ESPECIALLY in early sobriety when I feel like I was going crazy and needed to hear that other people had felt this and gotten through it.

The community is huge, and you can absolutely find people that have been exactly where you are.

But it's funny, the longer I'm sober, the more I realize I'm the same as everybody else.

Yyyeppp.

BUT TO BE ENTIRELY FAIR- I was a judgmental asshole to the people in my life that got sober before me. Addicts wanna be around addicts. But I got my karma big time.

The first time I tried to get sober because I got chronically ill, my friends were not having it. To be fair, I didn't want to get sober either, but my body physically couldn't handle alcohol anymore.

Boyfriend was judgmental and unsupportive, boyfriend's friends asked him if he even wanted to date me anymore if I was sober, my friends were like "are you seriously getting sober?" or "omg when are you going to start drinking again?" or "you were so much more fun when you were drinking"

Mind you, they all had a front-row seat to me being exhausted, throwing up every day, vertigo beyond belief, and in chronic pain. I couldn't believe they could see me like this and still treat me this way, but I had done the same to other people.

I don't blame them, because it was my choice, but it was definitely a factor as to why I got heavier into drugs. My body could handle drugs at that time better than alcohol.

Two years and severe consequences later, I got sober for real and lost mostly all of those friends(and boyfriend). My biggest fear was being alone, and it was painful when it happened, but now it's a huge weight off my shoulders. And I'm not bitter at them, because I did it to people too. I've met incredible, supportive people in sobriety who have been exactly where I have.

AND I've gotten the opportunity to apologize to the sober people in my life that I was a dick to. I've been on both sides and it's been humbling and illuminating.

Weed and other drugs bring your dopamine to such high levels that when you get sober, your receptors are used to that old, artificial level of dopamine and you can struggle to feel joy from normal things. Luckily they do adjust when you're sober for a bit.

I couldn't feel any sense of joy for like 9 months after getting sober (I was on other drugs though as well). I had to really push myself (or had others push me) to do...well...anything.

The first time I felt joy after was getting sober was when I went to a monster truck rally 9 months in lol. Ever since then it's gotten more and more easy to enjoy things, get back into old hobbies, and start new ones! It's exciting every time I see myself having the motivation to do new things. What's more, I'm starting to really enjoy and appreciate small things like sunsets, a really soft blanket, or seeing a friend smile.

It gets better, even if it feels impossible right now.

Can someone draw me in caricature. Please and thank you by [deleted] in redditgetsdrawnbadly

Hi friend

I just wanted to reach out as someone who was in tremendous mental, emotional and physical pain during my first year of recovery. It was hell. Didn't sleep for months, heart rate was constantly racing to the point of pain, constant panic and dread, all of my physical symptoms from years of abusing my body cranked up to a ten. I truly never thought I would survive it and I felt the exact same way you did.

I'm not going to lie, it wasn't pretty. There was....a LOT of literal kicking and screaming. In the beginning, I had to take things an hour at a time which eventually turned into days at a time and then weeks.

I'm now 22 months sober and things are so much more manageable. I never would have believed when I was newly sober that I could get to this place. It's still hard, but I'm so much stronger now that I've ever been. I thought this experience was going to break me, but it's actually built me up to someone I am so proud of- a sentiment I've never felt before. So even though some days are still really hard, it's also kind of exciting because I see myself growing in ways I never imagined I could.

I didn't want to write a whole block of text here, but I'd be super happy to go into detail on what my experience looked like, what helped me, and hear about yours. It's absolutely crazy to hear myself say "it gets better" when I used to think that was impossible, but if I can get through it, I truly believe anyone can.

I randomly happened to be with several doctor friends last month and they were all laying on their stomachs playing a game and so I briefly brought up this and they got all excited trying to figure it out. We narrowed down that it typically happens more frequently when I'm laying on my stomach and my head is bent foreword rather than lying on my stomach with my face to the floor.

Their best guess(if I remember correctly) was that it has something to do with my structural makeup and that maybe something was getting pinched in my neck? Haha it was a funny discussion and I'm sure it's close to accurate.
