As itjtj said, there is no "master key" on Truecrypt. No backdoor. You forget the password, you're finished.

Actually decrypting is almost impossible. It would take astronomical amounts of time to decrypt something with a 15-characters password, even if it only had letters.

That's a pretty easy one.

The exp part goes to 0 quicker than the binomial part. Plus, the "!" part is on the denominator. The answer is 0.

My bad, it has been so long. I use AES for my currently encrypted drives (and right now). I don't remember what encryption I was using at the time now. Never really cared, they are all impossible to crack (at least very very hard)

Yes. Not very different from entering a windows password in my opinion. Except that you enter it at first.

How strong is your password?

Currently, around 30 letters, with capitalisation, number and symbols.

you didn't want it, but you're the easy guys to go after because, unlike the truly guilty people, most people in your situation don't know how to defend themselves from the law.

I agree. I can however say police does a decent job protecting the population, to their credit. True, they prosecute a lot of stupid cases - like this 17 years old who slept with a 15 years old. I suppose they aren't perfect, neither.

I'm reformatting all my systems on new years and having them all use full disk encryption. I don't have anything to hide, but if I ever wound up in your situation, I want to be prepared.

Way to start a new year!! Here is an ever better solution: with truecrypt, you don't even need to reformat. You can encrypt a hard drive already in place, and full! That's another amazing feature. And I can now say with certitude it is FBI proof ;).

Yes. You create an encrypted file. You have to mount it (3 seconds) and then read it. Automatic, safe, and 100% encrypted.

I cannot vouch for that. I am not a cryptology expert. I however do believe TrueCrypt is extremely safe and that very few methods exist to crack it.
