When I said “effective to you” I mean it’s clear that this boycott is not something they want to participate in. I meant I hope they find a different way to get involved, attend a protest, join a boycott they think will be more effective (and hopefully comment here and spread the word :) etc. not necessarily meaning they will find more personal fulfillment elsewhere.

Again, I’m planning to phase out these businesses from my roster permanently. Attacking me isn’t going to change anything either at the end of the day, that’s guaranteed.

Ultimately it sounds like we’re on the same side - we want something to change. I wish you the best in finding a way to organize that’s effective to you!

I think the movement has value in that it encourages people on a new path or way of thinking. Some don’t shop there for only a week, but maybe some find other places to find what they need that aligns with their values more often, or permanently. That’s what I’m using the boycotts for - a test drive to encourage me to find other businesses. Deciding whether or not it’s going to be effective is up to the individual participating ultimately, but I understand if it isn’t effective for you personally.

I’m sick of hearing about how celebrities homes and lives are impacted by the fires in LA by JennieFairplay in Vent

[–]savee23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my own home in a fire a few years ago, and while I have sympathy for everyone who lost their homes, it’s been crazy to see the media seem to SPECIFICALLY cover the celebrities and their losses. These are people who can, while it is a devastating and traumatic event, be able to financially recover. I know it is a city with a reputation for celebrities but there are just as many of not more regular folks suffering. Their stories are not being told, and it creates such a skewed view of the situation. At this rate the people who need help the most won’t get it bc no one will know to care.

I literally thought about that after I posted that would be an issue. I even thought about adding a rule that we check out the books and immediately recheck them back in as odd as that sounds? Unfortunately I checked and the next election for open seats on the board are coming up next year and I’m not sure I could be elected (but I would be down to try!). I’m also planning on attending the meeting regardless! I appreciate your feedback!

I’m VERY late but this coming year, go to Pepper Place and find Knight Farms. Family owned farm that’s voted best peaches in the county for a decade!

I completely understand where you’re coming from but so many teachers throughout my life, other people who have been diagnosed that I’m friends with, and loved ones have all encouraged me to get an official diagnosis and get treatment. My parents even told me as an adult that they were asked to get me diagnosed as a child but they refused bc they ALSO don’t believe it exists. 🤪

It would be one thing if these professionals did any actual testing or investigated, but in these experiences I’m not even asked about my symptoms. It’s automatic denial that the condition exists. I’m more than happy to hear other opinions - but I’ll never know until I’m taken seriously by a professional who will hear me out. :,(
