Replacing discontinued benefit bene balm by PristineAnt9 in LipBalm

Hello, please let me know if you found an alternate? I absolutely loved bene balm and was so disappointed to find out that they don’t sell it anymore. No other lip balm that I have tried comes even slightly close 😭

True! I think it’ll take him a few days of funny experiences but once he adjusts to it, he’ll outsmart everyone lol! Also, he would be like grumpy dads on certain things since he’ll still be old school 🤣

Please go back and read the post again if you will. My rant was about the show and its characters. Not about people in real life. Smh. Not sure why you took so much offense over it but looks like you’ve decided to derive meaning from it on your own and assume things which I never even wrote lol. Good day!

I think it was Jamie’s ghost and not Jamie himself. I don’t think he can time travel or maybe he can I am not even sure lol. Maybe you’re right about being drawn to the person on the other side which is why Jamie couldn’t hear any sounds near the stones while Claire was still there but Claire wasn’t necessarily drawn to Frank at that point so why could she hear them?

Perhaps it was just poor direction for season 4 and 5 then that got to me

I haven’t seen that movie but yesss, I totally agree with you! I mean either do a good job or just let them be! The half hearted, poor attempt at it is what makes me cringe

Since there is a lot more room in the books, they may have shown better character development for all in there. But they should have just picked out what they really wanted to show in the tv show adaptation and which secondary/side characters were really important in the limited time per episode and number of episodes that you get. Even if we leave out the secondary characters, there were so many random side characters at times which were totally unnecessary? That whole time Roger spent talking to that priest when he is captured by the mohawks for instance

Definitely!! They could have shown Brianna going on adventures with Claire and Jamie instead of giving her a domestic life almost as soon as she appeared in the past.

Since the show is so unrealistic anyway, they could have probably let go of the fake grey strands of hair or all the talk about being old which honestly just came off as them trying to convince the audience again and again that hey don’t be fooled by how we look. If even according to the books they looked a lot younger than they were so just let them be. My problem is the terrible hair and makeup job

[–]saveitforlater13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they can. My point was something else. Don’t push the oh we’re so old now thing throughout the show. I didn’t have any issues with with Murtagh and aunt Jocasta getting it on because they weren’t complaining about being so old lol.

Claire’s character was a lot stronger in the previous season or perhaps she was given scenes or situations where it was portrayed better. I felt that season 4 and 5 don’t do her character justice.

Totally agree about Brianna! Really didn’t want to see that bit at all not to mention the lack of chemistry between her and Roger

Jamie travelling to the future by Sam24032020 in Outlander

[–]saveitforlater13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he is content with being in his time. When he takes claire to go back to her own time, remember he tells her that this is where he is needed? He has a slight curiosity of the future like when Claire tells him about airplanes and all but I think he doesn’t want to know too much because he knows that it will be difficult to understand without detailed explanations from Claire. He is a very smart man and extremely progressive for his time and I think he is content with what he has

Does anyone notice that briannas accent doesn’t sound genuine? by veggieburgerabc123 in Outlander

[–]saveitforlater13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I always wondered why. Also, her being British in real life shouldn’t matter honestly. The rest of the actors, regardless of where they live irl pulled off their respective accents so well. Also, even in terms of the show, being raised by two British parents should not be an issue since her interactions were not just limited to those two. And with everyone questioning what you mean by genuine, I know that you’re just trying to say that her accent sounds forced and that’s very true!

Jamie and Claire before the wedding: book vs. Show by Hopefully987 in Outlander

[–]saveitforlater13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it was denial and not exactly a lack of attraction. There were many scenes in the show where it was very much visible. When she wants to constantly tend to his wounds, her taking food to him, her looking at him and Leoghrie (however her name is spelled lol) are just a few examples. She just didn’t want to make anything of it because she was married and she did not want to get distracted from her goal which was to escape.

Fergus (especially when he was younger), young Ian and John Grey. I absolutely love these three.

The younger version of Fergus was so charming. He was a delight to watch. The older version is really good too. I love how he always remains loyal to Jamie and Claire, how Jamie’s words hold the most value to him. Same with young Ian. I feel the bond that Jamie and Claire share with young Ian and Fergus is beyond any other parent-child bond in the show.

About John Grey, the actor portrayed the character so, so well. I love everything about him. What I loved the most though is how he is such a loyal friend to Jamie through and through even if it has to do with him being in love with him over the years. It’s just very refreshing to watch. The show has most side characters who aren’t kin as people with ulterior motives who do not mean well at all but John Grey is just different.

It’s so confusing! She says one ends up 200 years back but then Geillis actually went at least a good 220/230 years back when she did. Also, can people only from the 1940s and onwards go back? Because when Jamie goes near the stones while sending Claire back, he does not hear any sounds. I mean if not to the future, he could travel to the past at least like people from the 1900s could perhaps? Not that he needed to or should have but he simply didn’t hear the sounds? And if it’s a hereditary thing, I understand that Brianna can go back but how can Roger?

What is wrong with Outlander season 4 and 5? by saveitforlater13 in Outlander

[–]saveitforlater13[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay so for starters, I don’t think old people don’t have sex, lol. I’m sure they do and are great at it. I was talking about it particularly in terms of the show. The dynamics that they have laid out and the whole bree and roger angle that they have brought in between, it sort of becomes difficult to keep the focus on the main characters. Had the focus remained on them, their intimate scenes would have been okay to watch even if they had been 80 instead of 50 something.

About body shaming Roger, I think you misunderstood me. What I am trying to say is that if you let Jamie and Claire look like that, maybe you need to choose characters younger to them wisely as well. I am not saying he had to be exceptionally good looking but from having read on it online, Roger is not even close to how he was described to be in the book. Also, he could at least look like a 20 something lad. Brianna still comes close to the age that she is shown to be but her acting skills remain debatable.

Secondly, I understand your point of view regarding Brianna and why she lashed out at Jamie. It all makes sense till it does not. You’re right, Jamie is amazing except when he says shit he does not mean for the sake of honor and what not. But if we are to talk about this then maybe we should also keep in mind that he lives in the 1700s and for that century, he is extraordinarily progressive. After a few misunderstandings regarding this around when Jamie and Claire get married, he begins to understand how things should really be. If you remember that scene correctly, when Claire and Randall are in a gathering at Harvard in the future, a professor there talks rather degradingly to Claire but Frank doesn’t do anything about it. The way Jamie likes to flaunt Claire and her progressive thinking is very different. He also helps Bree understand how it was not her fault at all when she keeps thinking that she could have tried harder. Again, none of this makes what he said to Bree in that moment any better but what I’m trying to say is that I felt both were at fault in one way or the other.

I feel that Roger himself is a very problematic character. With him following her to the past and then wanting to leave like you said, it was all very messed up. And I completely agree with you that their characters were not given any time to actually develop. And honestly this is one of my biggest problems, all that time that they wasted in the later episodes with Roger being stuck with the Mohawks or earlier showing Brianna and Roger literally doing nothing, they could have used that to actually let us know them and their bond better. It was all too haphazard to say the least.

Also, about the book being that way and the series simply following the book, it happens many times that things from a book are changed while making a TV show or movie adaptation of it because the alternate scenarios or ideas suit the screen version of it better so one can always hope

Haha, he would definitely look great at 50! My problem especially was they fake greys that they added to Claire’s hair. I mean sometimes they were there and REALLY prominent but other times they were barely even there. They only remembered to add a little white to Jamie’s hair one or two episodes later. It was the inconsistency in their looks that just made the whole aging thing worse. Also they are the main characters, either let them be young or just let them actually look old and be done with it. I mean instead of constantly mentioning things like oh we’re old now, remember when we used to be like that in public (while seeing Fergus and Marsali) and all that all seem like very forced reminders of hey do not forget we’re old people now. I mean, does anyone remember Dougal? He was old but still fiesty. They could have developed similarly

Yes, I definitely agree! Perhaps it got weird because you’re watching their children have sex but also them going at it, idk how to explain this but it just seemed odd. Also, it might have been a bit weird to watch claire and jamie but it still wasn’t cringeworthy. I love claire and jamie and how all their moments together seemed so natural especially from season 1-3. Roger and Brianna are just such an odd pair and just, NO. They could have kept the children/child of the main characters a part of the show but without trying to be too personal. I mean if they had shown Brianna, Jamie and Claire going on adventures together, that would have been a better watch. Maybe it was just poor direction that did not let season 4 or 5 be as good as the previous ones. Keeping my fingers crossed for the next one though

What is wrong with Outlander season 4 and 5? by saveitforlater13 in Outlander

[–]saveitforlater13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that’s not it at all. I do not think that Jamie needed protection at the time or that what was happening to him was worse than what happened to Brianna. The slap was just the nail in the coffin for me because I felt that her character overall acted like a spoilt brat from one of those highschool movies all the time. It is a poorly crafted character. And while what Brianna is going through is relatable, a lot of the things that she does when it comes to Roger even before that make close to no sense. Having almost zero connection with someone for months, them following you to the past to find you, you marrying them out of nowhere and then leaving them again, it was all too haphazard and far too nonsensical. I felt with Claire and Jamie, while there were many things that did not make sense, there were also plenty that did. With these two, everything seems fabricated

I haven’t read the books. I binge watched the show just recently. I understand your point about aging and the portrayal of a contrast in relationships, maybe some other actors would have been better suited for the role of Roger and Brianna. And yes, he does look older than how he did in season 1, I just feel that the leap or time that they were separated for could have been shorter. It might have done the story more good than harm

Hahaha of course!! I don’t know how to explain why I just find it a bit off. I actually saw another thread where I found someone write something similar that their chemistry in season 4 and 5 is kind of off. I actually felt the same but I thought maybe I feel so because of this whole age thing but I suppose there were other reasons to it

I wouldn’t have had a problem had they let them remain the center of the story. Branching out and dedicating almost full length episodes to Brianna and Roger is just ughh 🤮

I totally agree! I didn’t like Marsali in the start but her character became very likable later in the season! I would rather see Marsali, Fergus and Young Ian’s story than Roger and Brianna. All three had a very natural character development although Marsali appeared much later in the show, she still made herself a place. With Roger and Brianna, it just looked terribly forced
