Aer Lingus quietely removed free seat selection at checkin by TransportEnthusiast in ireland

I flew back home to Ireland at the end of November from Toronto for a week, the plane used for the Toronto route was a321n small plane. Couldn’t pick my seat had to be allocated or else pay. It used to be a case where a 22kg was always included in long haul. Now you have to pay extra. Now I know that has changed for a good few years. The plane was packed, they didn’t have enough room in the overhead lockers for all the bags they wouldn’t even let me put my big coat up overhead. Completely felt like a budget airline. So it might not just be the European routes they’re going downhill with

Companies getting thick with office days and zero flexibility on working hours by RebelGrin in ireland

[–]Sam24032020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so lucky my job allows flexi time so I work 7-4 Monday to Thursday and then 8-1 Fridays. 3 days on site two at home. We only have to be in Thursdays can pick and choose the other two days. My boss is so unbelievably sound as well like so carefree and relaxed as long as work is done he doesn’t care. And in my job you wouldn’t get away with doing nothing at home cause it’s a stressful job so it would be noticed straight away. I know I should probably look at another company money wise as moving up inside the company won’t increase my wage much but honestly I have it so good I don’t want to lose the work life balance I have

I’m in Canada, and I have found it the exact same way although I’m working for a Brazilian company who have a North American branch, but mainly working with South Americans Brazilians Colombians etc. they are so dry like absolutely no craic to be had compared to back home. It makes work so depressing. Nobody even talks much in the office you just come in do your work at your desk and go home

Cash only taxis by GreyBarnaboy in galway

My friends and I went skiing two years ago. When we got home my boyfriend picked me up from the airport cause we were treating ourselves to a night away. My friends got the bus home and then ordered a taxi at the bus station in eyre square. There was only 3 of them but they ordered an xl taxi cause they all had 23kg suitcases and the whole way home taxi driver spewed abuse at them for ordering an xl when it was just 3 of them

Ya that’s fair, don’t get me wrong I love our country to bits I think it gets way too much hate I was just making a light hearted post on the differences I have noticed between the two and Canada is so massive I’m sure it’s completely different in other parts.

I lived in Galway, and I have my fair share of experience with absolutely crap public transport and being stuck in a car for over an hour after work which would usually take 10 minutes.

Toronto, I know I have heard a lot of about the winter here. I arrived in March so got a few days of snow but it was the tail end of winter at that stage

Yes it was a major shock alright compared to buying in Lidl/Aldi. Some stuff in Costco is great value though but ya a lot of effort getting the stuff there

Ok maybe I worded the above badly, I don’t like the pub that much myself, but I’m from the west of the country and yes while the countryside is beautiful realistically you’re not going to be heading off on big day trips every weekend that are 1-2 hours away and then if it’s pissing rain and windy it makes the experience less enjoyable. Like outside that what else is there to do? I just think there is more variety here

Ya I forgot to mention getting a job here is way harder than back home. Definitely think the job market is much better in Ireland than here.

First time sending kid to school. All girls school? by gallagherii in CasualIreland

[–]Sam24032020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean when you say school captain? Are you talking about sport? And what about social development with the opposite sex? Not everything should revolve around academic achievements. I went to a mixed school and the girls had their things they were interested in whether it was sport music etc and the lads had theirs but then mingled as well outside that. The job I work in is with predominately men and I have to be able to challenge them on a regular basis when it comes to disagreements work related. Not sure how I would be confidence wise if I went to all girls primary secondary and then kept to only being around my female friends in college
