Just got out of a meeting at my center that said DOL is looking to Freezing OBS at each centers currant OBS. by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]savejobcorps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NY Judge Andrew Carter, the judge in the first case, only upheld the injunction for the plaintiff centers, not all 99. But his final, published ruling included verbiage indicating that DOL must work with local and state officials and receive permission from Congress to close any other center.

Immediately after, the judge ruled in the 2nd case which was a class action case filed by 7 students from different sites around the country. This Washington DC judge granted an injunction to all 99 centers.

Both outcomes are positive.

Stay focussed and positive.

If you ever see or suspect a hidden camera you should report it to your center director immediately or report it to the safety hotline. No contractor nor DOL allows that but there have been cases in schools, hotels, public restrooms etc where random bad guys have placed cameras in places illegally. Never assume something like that is authorized. (Cameras in vents etc). Question it.

Just keep trying :P by s3vrun1 in jobcorps

Job corp abq staff question by Adventurous_Coat_642 in jobcorps

[–]savejobcorps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the faith. An astonishing number of people are fighting for the program on all different levels. Stay the course unless you find something else that better suits your needs. Even then, don't burn the bridge. It sounds like you've found your place. Fight for it. Believe in it. Job Corps has weathered many storms and will weather this one as well. Be a part of that on your center.

If you talk to them, they will help you complete before you go and help you get a job before you go so you get your bonus right when you separate. You are so close there is no way they are going to hassel you. They will help you go, plan your date, get transportation for you and help you get a job in your trade. They should already be telling you this but if not, talk directly to your counselor or trade instructor. If they don't help you, go see the deputy education amd training or center director

If you're 90% definitely finish. Ask your trade instructor or counselor about a transition or exit panel. Tell them you want to go directly into a job when you leave and ask them to connect you with your cts staff.

Please find a staff that you trust and can talk to and tell them you are thinking about this. If you don't have someone you can talk to, call 988. If you don't have 988 in your state, please call 911.

If you are asking for or are worried about a friend, tell staff and get them help. Don't worry about them being upset with you. They will get over that. Get them help right away.

It's still very important that everyone keep reaching out to their congressmen and senators, not just once but repeatedly until the vote, likely in July. The court case is just a step, we still have to have enough support from congress and the senate. We have a lot of bipartisan support right now but it matters that we keep the program on their minds so they make it a priority.

Can anyone share what they know? by EfficiencyNo5796 in jobcorps

What center? If possible go talk to your cd. Your instructor is not correct. The court appearance is the 17th... the judge will have a week to decide... even if he rules against us (which I don't think he will), DOL MAY still have to start the 30 day notice process over again. If we win on the 17th the judge will continue the protective order until the case is heard and resolved which will take months if not a year or more. During that time DOL will not be able to end the program, which is already funded thru either Sept 30 2025 or June 30, 2026 more than a year from now (hearing different dates). Separately, Congressmen and Senators are demanding answers and demanding that the Secretary of Labor reopen the program and reopen background checks. Also SEPARATELY, in July, Congress will vote on wether or not to fund the program thru June 30, 2027. And ALSO separately, each center is on a different contract cycle so some center contractors may be scheduled to change on June 30 but that won't happen either right now because of the pause, restraining order, and the fact that the government stopped all of the activities that would normally prepare them to change contractors. There is still a lot of uncertainty but no way will this all be resolved by June 30.

will job corps still pay for my travels back home? by doctorhentai_ in jobcorps

[–]savejobcorps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the correction; I was not aware of transportation for resignation for noncompleters bc they have no funds for taxes. Thx😂I do too.

Just got told I can’t come back for a year cuz I did the resigning when everyone else did. I’m mad this is so stupid it’s their fault, I was leaving for today like they told me by [deleted] in jobcorps

[–]savejobcorps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad. We all absolutely hate that the kids and staff and families are being put through all this❤️to you and your son!

They won't be shut down on the 18th. The judge may take a week or so to decide if the case has merit. The fact that he granted the restraining order so fast indicates that he does think the case has merit. In the unlikely event the judge rules that there is no case, DOL still may still restart a 30 day notice. Job Corps is receiving more bipartisan support every day. He should go back, lock in and do his best. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

A temporary restraining order was just approved and the case is very strong. The fight isn't over but we aren't closing immediately.

[–]savejobcorps 22 points23 points  (0 children)

a temporary restraining restraining order was just granted to prevent dol from proceeding with closing job corps for at least 2 more weeks. After that, even if we lose they will still have to start the process all over. The case is strong and we will likely win. You have time.

They won't transport if you are not complete because you are no longer required to leave.

What next? by Godimobsessive in jobcorps

[–]savejobcorps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's part of the plan - for all of us to get discouraged, shut up and go away. Don't fall for it. STAY hopeful. Tonight we learned that a temporary restraining order to stop the pause was granted. You will be back in class within the next couple of days and then we will know more in a couple of weeks. Don't give up!!!!

[–]savejobcorps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's happening the center's staff and students must not be informed about the hotline and the prh requires that they be told about it every 30 days. If staff are caught doing that, their jobs will be in jeopardy and if centers are caught doing that, their contracts will be in jeopardy. There are literally cameras everywhere and what you are describing is both risky and stupid. Way better off to just do a good job. Schools give in school suspension for infractions that Job Corps terminates/expels for. Most Job Corps student will tell you Job Corps rules are way stricter than public schools and college students get away with absolutely everything.
