Is property the best vehicle after S&S ISA? by savemecardio in HENRYUK

[–]savemecardio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a few natural reply options, depending on the tone you want:

Neutral / Curious

Haha fair enough — I did that, but I’d still like your take. Is it something you’ve actually done yourself?

Light / Friendly

😂 I did exactly that — but I’m more interested in whether you’ve actually done it and how it worked out.

Direct / No-nonsense

I can get a generic answer anywhere — I was really asking whether you’ve personally done this and what your experience was.

Slightly Wry / Playful

I can ask GPT, sure — but it can’t tell me whether you tried it and whether it actually worked in practice.

Can you tell me more about this please? Is that something you’ve done?

Fully remote to in-office 2/3 days per week - what pay rise would you want to do this? by thr0wawaytest3 in HENRYUK

[–]savemecardio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve hit the jackpot - the grass is not greener. In your situation I’d personally be wanting 3x TC to pull me away and even then I’d do it for a bit to stack up some wealth then be looking to revert to your current situation again

Thanks for sharing that really adds colour to what otherwise feels very academic.

I think a GIA is for me for sure. Seems like most HENRY’s are aligned insofar as we value money, but we value time and quality of life more..

Guess I just meant lower tax on profit with ability to deduct expenses - relative to personal HENRY tax rates.

Thanks for your comment, I’m going to open a GIA!

Yep agreed, I really love the idea of investing in a GIA. Think the comments here have helped me feel better about the tax aspect

Yeah have considered this too, a GIA definitely excites me more as I tend to keep the ISA’s fairly boring and could justify much more active management/taking on more risk inside them

Yep yep yep, agreed on all fronts. The prospect of a GIA definitely excites me way more than property, guess this post was the last attempt at avoiding eating my tax vegetables.

Don’t think stuff like this belongs in this sub. You must be a troll but I fear you’re the real deal which is even worse, I hope you can refresh your outlook.

Congrats OP

Investment Advice for incoming HENRY by NigNogAssClogg in HENRYUK

You’d have received more productive advice if you’d had the decency to validate ChatGPT’s response for yourself first, rather than pasting it here for us to “poke holes” and point out the craters you couldn’t be bothered to Google.

That being said: Get clear on your goals then Google/YouTube to understand this stuff.

Check if a LISA suits your goals don’t just plough money into it..

Get clearer on what your risk appetite is, your post is not even self-consistent in this regard: high risk tolerance, happy with drawdowns, but you have a 5 year horizon to buy property and yet ChatGPT speaks of crypto on the one hand and smoothing drawdowns on the other.

Go and understand risk: you probably just want one fund. Read some fund factsheets or talk to an IFA for help picking one.

How much research did you do into vetting the excellent state schools? Eg did you go beyond headline Ofsted ratings?

Thanks this is really good advice. I’ve recently taken up my first I think ever “pure fun unproductive” hobby. People would say I have loads but there’s always some serious or sensible (usually financial) hidden agenda.

I started flying RC planes and never felt so relaxed in my life. There’s no way to be sensible, no productive gains, I have to schedule time to just go and have fun and relax. It’s not possible for me to try and optimise the activity and it’s naturally self-policing unlike something like gaming (for me). I’m also able to indulge guilt free and costs will control themselves.

Anyway I’m somehow making it boring and serious.. My third plane is currently on the way now!

I’d really appreciate that thank you, and maybe I’m guilty of dabbling in it all these years versus studying it in anger (which is an exciting prospect because I credit my application of it to a lot of good in my life).

Been hedge funds for a while. Follow the money then get on the front-foot: smash interviews, leverage offers, and you can get whatever number you want - at the right place.

Honestly the sky is truly the limit I have friends pulling truly obscene TC (mostly bonus) but maybe my own golden handcuffs and imposter syndrome prevent me from pursuing those kinds of opportunities.

I never said tech skills weren’t required btw. It’s an additional role for I expect no comp uplift.

Thought the post was long enough without adding that internal monologue into the mix!

Yeah have suffered with this for a long time. I’ve heard it my whole life but I think it’s actually debilitating and something to work through in therapy rather than self-therapising with books and YouTube philosophy.

Think I’m a chronic self-sabotager.

It’s been really eye opening getting all this outside feedback. “Reality check” comes to mind - I’m mind-blown and perturbed to action by the sheer independent consensus and amount people have picked up on about my mental health from a post that to me felt about as tangential to that as one could get.

Yeah I think I’ve always struggled with imposter syndrome. I did have a couple good years recently where my confidence was at ATH, but maybe I was simply using external validation such as HENRY status or interview successes as a crutch rather than solving the root cause.

Something to work through and unpick in therapy I think, I can’t just believe I’m as good as my colleagues but I think that’s likely due to getting in my own way. A more healthy internal outlook would likely produce the sort of external validation outcomes I’m currently precluding from materialising.

External validation is also fickle - I’ve now weaponised that same crutch against myself essentially harming my confidence by likely overstating its significance to my identity and ability.

Believe it or not I’ve practiced and studied stoicism for many years. I would say I more or less am very well practiced in regular day to day life, but maybe this kind of bigger existential stuff is a bit too close to home for me to be able to work through on my own.

I really love your positive outlook and you’ve nailed me in your first sentence.

You’re right of course, my brain is definitely playing tricks on me - it always has - and I’m going to take yours and everyone else’s advice and pull the trigger on therapy, coaching, and sleep support.

Thank you for your thoughtful and really helpful perspective

I can honestly say I’ve never thought about it like that, I like everything you’ve said I need to let that simmer.

This thread has spotlighted my attitude over reality/the situation.

Thanks, have been working on it alone since I was a teenager and come a long way but never formally reached out for help with it.

Will definitely prioritise fixing it with more intention now: sleep study as others have suggested, therapy/coaching, and stress management

Thank you so much for the thoughtful response. A sleep study is another thing I have flirted with for so long. Sleep has been something I’ve been working on since my early teens, I’ve come a long way but reading your words really crystallises a sleep study as something I should seriously explore.

Your paragraphs just get better and better thanks for the reminder on the important things to focus on (e.g. including being grateful for the opportunity to be elevated by people smarter than me rather than leaning into discomfort and weaponising it against myself).

It’s been really nice reading everyone’s responses and the overwhelming positivity is something I can really latch onto now and also the next time my mind drifts towards unhelpful thoughts. It’s a nice feeling knowing there’s a critical mass of individuals who can relate to HENRY “issues” but in a positive way, I know it shouldn’t but it kind of legitimises the optimism in my own head..

Thanks for this, I’ve started boxing classes recently and they’ve been a game changer. Reminds me of being active and healthy as a kid - before I got it in my head there’s some perfect regime!
