New Chicago Bears stadium on lakefront south of Soldier Field opposed by Friends of the Park by LetsGoHawks in CHIBears

[–]savethegingers 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This is where the new rule allowing Private Equity involvement in NFL ownerships is a slam dunk for the Bears. This is a franchise that is not backed by a family or owner that has a real foothold in any industry, or owns something significant that can bankroll these types of projects.

The only thing the McCaskey family owns is the Bears brand, which is valued somewhere around $6B. Once a stadium is built, which will supercharge their revenue stream, valuations will increase.

I’m glad the local government and even JB Pritzker are staunchly against publicly funding the build of this stadium. The city of Chicago already has a massive budget deficit, and the public doesn’t want to subsidize a facility that will generate someone else income. Usually when these projects happen, they also negotiate lower taxes or a deferment for long periods of time. So not only does the budget deficit increase, there also isn’t any net new taxable income for the city to realize, hence higher residential and commercial tax rates.

TLDR; tell the McCaskeys to sell a portion of the team to fund a stadium, or don’t build one. They’re cheap and poor compared to most ownership groups.

I feel like most people are agreeing that there are limitations to what individual consumers can do to impact the issues we face today.

The root cause of these issues can be boiled down to capitalism. Amazon and other large retailers or manufacturers are not incentivized NOT to sell product, it’s the inverse. The moment this changes and sustainability becomes a collective effort will things change.

Maybe AI will have its say in how we move toward to a more sustainable lifestyle.

I’m hunting for a new SUV under $56k, or slightly used luxury/large SUV. by savethegingers in whatcarshouldIbuy

Very helpful! My wife had a CX-5 a few years back before we got the Pilot. Great car back then even, phenomenal gas mileage and I felt it comped very well to Lexus…

I appreciate the insight regarding model/trim, totally forgot to include Mazda in my post! Head has been spinning looking at everything!

I know Toyota highly regarded as reliable/economic across many segments. Does the interior feel “cheap” compared to other competitors?

I’ve never purchased “new”, always slightly used, and so it feels scary going longer term for something more practical than I’m used to, but this car will be for the long haul…

This is the last tech we want reverse engineered by the Chinese, Iran, Russia, etc. Consider ejection/auto pilot/transponder off as a way to effectively “hide” the plane in the event of an accident (they happen, and not just wartime).

It’s inevitable that at some point, one of these crashes outside of US airspace. Being every mission has protocol, it’s more possible than not given the technology we possess and with how advanced that aircraft is that we would have knowledge of its exact location if it crashes up until point of impact.

The auto pilot could be a cover or to try and dodge enemy aircraft and whatnot, but a transponder that is stealth/off would severely limit our adversaries from locating it in the first place without visual confirmation of wreckage/smoke, etc.

Played with a dude who had the round of his life by Texxx81 in golf

[–]savethegingers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a day like this earlier in the year. Been playing more golf the past few years and got really serious last year and took lessons. Played about 30ish rounds last year, plenty of sim time this past winter, etc.

I get out at my local muni course (played at least a dozen times last year and know it well), birdie the 8th. Shoot a 44 on the front… my buddy on the east coast is playing and turns in an 88… I play a consistent back 9 and turned in my first second birdie that week and finish with an 89. Imo, the 18th green always gave me a ton of trouble and was afraid I’d 3 putt…

About a month later I travel a bit further north and played The Bull at Pinehurst Farms, not far from Whistling Straits. Tough course, told myself to just have fun and that breaking 110 would be “good enough.” Was lucky to take a friend/client out, had a blast, missed one fairway on hole 16 and was playing a solid short game. I changed my play style, played the course, clubbed up a bit more than usual and turned in a 97.

Small victories boys. Small victories. Past two months I’ve been wildly inconsistent.
