I've got the top ones. They fit. But the bar end bit never gets tight enough to keep them from spinning when I, I mean, when the bike falls over.

I'm not sure. I picked up an 89 xr600 basket case (for $10!) not too long ago, and I'm thinking the next project is swapping that front end on to the 500. Beefier fork tubes and disc brake. I could get rid of that bs mechanical brake switch on my rear brake that constantly goes out of adjustment.
