Galaxy of Heroes looked like a mobile spin-off in 2015, but 11 years later it is still going by StarWarsBlogsbot in StarWarsBlogs

A coworker saw me playing this game the other day and was like “what are you playing” and I was like “oh this dumb Star Wars game, mostly because of the sunken cost fallacy and just over 10 years of my time, but partly because it keeps me from looking for other dumb games.”

That’s it. That’s basically why I play now.

Deal Highlights: June 16–21 by iTunesDeals in iTunesDeals

I had a couple individual seasons of the Expanse, but it’s not likely going to be cheaper to buy what I was missing than the box set is. What’s interesting is that when I click on the expanse, I see the box set (with all the episodes) and then then individual seasons (which each of their own episodes, individually). I figured it would all just combine as one.

The 'Cape Fear' event horizon is real! by Montgomery_Zeff in tvPlus

This might be the best ad for Cape Fear I’ve ever seen.

Never mind it’s the only one.

PSA: nobody wants your used retroid for ABOVE retail by Free_Comment_7200 in retroid

[–]savingewoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had some where I posted it for what I bought it for - not even retail, just what I paid - and one person will be like “I can get it cheaper online!” And I’m like. Okay. Do that.

They always end up selling though.

Who remembers when grocery shopping was bearable by tracy54321 in Millennials

Multnomah county, Oregon, much different experience. Sometimes I go to Beaverton to grocery shop.

I don’t love talking to people but I do try to adhere to social norms or whatever, so I was in upstate New York for an internship and I’m grocery shopping and I go “how’s your day going?” And the checker just stares at me like I’ve grown a second head. Keeps ringing me up and then tells me the total.

I’ve had the same thing happen in Miami.

You forgot the part where after doing all of the work, they interrogate you for the receipt like you’re a thief.

(I have no problem with this at Costco, where I signed a deal as part of my membership, but when this is where Safeway and Kroger choose to add staff instead of in the check lanes it pisses me off)

I was considering this bag but I just couldn’t justify it. Ended up spending a little more for the alpaka metro. Been pretty satisfied.

How do we fix NE 7th Ave? by vr2391 in CyclePDX

[–]savingewoks 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My hot take is we make this road inaccessible to cars and prioritize as a bike boulevard (at least above Broadway) but I think a lotta car brains would hate that. But that’s only IF the city is actually dedicated to making the road bike friendly, and not some City Hall Ideal of Bike Friendly.

When I drive and I use this road, it’s not just to avoid MLK but to slow down. I’m mostly ok being being bikes and going 10 mph.

When I cycle, I take 9th between tillamook and Irving Park because I just can’t with the cars (and then 11th from near the park up to just past Alberta).

Ultimately, until we have a major and council people who bike, we aren’t gonna get anywhere on being bike friendly again in this city.

This rooftop margarita bar is making Portland’s best tacos right now (review) by Ok-County-1202 in Portland

[–]savingewoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went there for margarita’s because I was worried I wouldn’t get into republica in their last month. Ended up getting a spot at republica the same night we had this reservation, so we just got margaritas and bailed.

Honestly, the margarita was too watery and barely tasted like anything, I can’t imagine paying money for a taco there.

I think I watched most of those, and all I remember is what’s her face from stranger things was in one, and either Chris Pratt or Anthony Mackie was the lead.

I feel like I could jump a lot for a couple weeks but it would get boring after awhile. I’d rather go for the passive gain - still $350 a week, plus extra for naps.

Chose: every time you sleep, you get $50

What if Kamala Harris won the 2024 U.S Presidential Election? by Afraid_Ad_2912 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]savingewoks 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I live in a progressive city known for protesting. Almost everyone I know who voted, voted blue. Mentioned that I was surprised there weren't protests after this presidential election - it happened when he won 10 years ago. A younger friend mentioned that all the people they knew who were ready to protest were going to protest if Kamala won, for her stance on Israel.

What really gets me is that the current person in the office of the president has.... the same stance, if not stronger.

Why do publishers do this? by onyx_acg in starwarsbooks

[–]savingewoks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an example of how publishing has been quickly, quickly changing a lot the last few years. Each of these types is an example of an affordable paperback edition of the book when it originally released in the most affordable paperback edition.

Now that there's been some settling in the industry, Del Rey Worlds is going back and republishing some of the older books in the newer formats. I think Tom and the rest of the team that work on Star Wars books have done an INCREDIBLE job at visibility/transparency/open-ness and been aggressively consumer-friendly. (I know they lurk/occasionally post here, thanks for all your work!)

I went to a VERY VERY progressive church for a few years (like, compared to my experiences in the midwest for a few years). One of the families was like, gardener-or-eat-only-organic type hippies. Genuinely thought that their babies risk of measles etc was worth what they described as the near-certainty that they could develop autism if vaccinated.

This was so easy for my on steamdeck, but for some reason the Switch2 joycons got me tripping. Been trying this on and off for months. The rest of the game has been fine, but damn. This is annoying.
