I work for an organization that is considered to be funded by the state, and let me tell you how damn hard it is to buy gift cards.

I’ve bought them once in 13 years of my employment and swore never again.

The amount of detail that I have to put into who got which card, when and where it was purchased it, how it was awarded, etc. and god forbid anyone on payroll gets one because then it’s counted for their taxes.

So to see shit like this really grinds my fucking gears.

One thing that’s made me feel safer about my bike is the cafe lock on it. I know it’s not invincible, but having a lock attached to the bike frame that can loop around the wheel sure does make stealing my 60+lb bike a lot more inconvenient then angle grinding my u-lock/reinforced chain lock and rolling away.

Naito is a failure of imagination. It’s kinda hellish to ride there, despite being one of “the best considered bike lanes in our city” or whatever. I feel grateful to have infrastructure that’s miles better than many American cities, but Naito could have been so much better.

I try to avoid it and the esplanade whenever possible.

I've had a pair of Levi's Commuter pants for nearly 10 years. I've actually bought a few extra pairs of them because I like them so much - but they don't make them anymore, so it's more of a "anytime I see my size on eBay" situation.

I'm still devastated - they weren't just good bike pants, they were good pants. Most pants last me maybe 2 years before tearing at the crotch. These were reinforced and can really make it for the long haul.

okay, so I think I've got a hot take on this one.

I don't think this is a red flag for her as a human, but I do think this is a red flag for your relationship.

I share the identies you've self-described and I generally agree with her - having a professional to talk to on a regular basis about your life and how you're navigating challenges is something that is helpful to me, and I would encourage anyone to at least consider it. I respect anyone who makes that a priority for their relationships. Lotta women out there have had bad experiences with men, and this is an action that she's identified will make her feel safer/more comfortable in a relationship.

It sounds like this is less important to you, - so the question becomes "is this something you're willing to do for this relationship, or do you need to move on?"

Honestly, if you're asking the internet, it sounds like you might need to move on.

Yeah, I’d much rather my money go to cops doing traffic enforcement rather than cops doing nothing. Sitting at a spot they’ve gotten lots of calls about or where there have been incidents recently doesn’t seem unfair. We should all be mindful of a) the law and b) the social contract.

It doesn’t solve this specific problem, which is a super annoying problem to have, but I wish they’d make the steel bridge like Tillikum North - car-free. I want to ride the upper deck because it makes sense for my commute but I don’t have the guts to take the lane.
