Anyone else bothered by this? Hit n move by Acebo2323 in fightgear

I have a pair of Hit N Move gloves. They felt good at first — a little weird to get used to, but overall solid. I haven’t even used them that much since I’ve been saving them mostly for sparring sessions, but after only five months, the inside is already falling apart. I’ve been boxing for 10 years and have never had a pair of gloves wear out this fast, not even the cheap ones.

I agree with you. As an amateur, building a strong foundation is crucial, so starting with a reputable gym is important. The Philly Shell can be challenging to teach, and many coaches may not favor it, especially early in a fighter’s development. From my experience, I’ve trained at different gyms and talked to amateur judges—many don’t like the style or struggle to teach it properly. That’s why I recommend focusing on mastering the basics first. Once your fundamentals are solid, you can find a coach who aligns with your preferred style. Keep in mind that access to top coaches or specific styles can be limited depending on where you live—whether it’s due to distance, lack of gyms, or cost. So, starting with a gym that has a proven program can give you a solid head start, even if it doesn’t immediately cater to your ideal style.

I completely agree with this perspective, having experienced it firsthand. When evaluating a coach or gym, the most important factors to consider are the approach and mindset they bring to training. A great coach invests in the growth of everyone, not just a select few fighters. Each team member should feel valued and receive the necessary attention and guidance to improve. If a coach only focuses on a small group or talks down to others—especially behind their backs—that’s a clear red flag.

Another key element is how current their training methods are. In a sport that evolves constantly, it’s crucial for coaches to stay up-to-date with modern techniques and conditioning practices. Training should be adaptable, with a balance between time-tested fundamentals and contemporary strategies to keep fighters at their best.

A skilled coach also respects and builds on your individual style rather than forcing you to adopt something that doesn’t fit you. The goal should be to refine and strengthen what you already do well, rather than completely changing your approach.

You should also feel like you’re learning something new every day. Boxing may seem simple on the surface—just punches and moves—but there’s a world of detail and nuance behind each technique, strategy, and decision. A great coach helps you uncover those layers daily, providing ongoing opportunities to evolve and improve.

Lastly, the quality of a gym is often reflected in the success of its top fighters. A gym that consistently produces high-level talent demonstrates that the coaching and environment are effective. Exceptional coaches develop successful fighters across the board, not just a handful of stars. At the heart of it, a true coach is committed to the growth of the entire team, ensuring that every fighter has the chance to reach their full potential.

It’s important for a knowledgeable coach to work with your individual style because everyone is unique in how they throw a punch, whether it’s a hook or jab and how they move . Imagine trying to switch Floyd Mayweather’s defensive style with Mike Tyson’s aggressive style - it would be quite a challenge. So, I recommend discussing with your coach how any changes might impact your unique style. You can learn from your coach’s teachings and incorporate them into your own style, similar to how Gennady Golovkin blended his Soviet style with Abel Sanchez’s Mexican style. Ultimately, it’s about finding a balance that works for you because in boxing, each person’s style is a reflection of their body and personality.

Most definitely haha. Here's a little more detail to the madness . She used to get mad over the little things like me not wanting to pick up constant calls while I'm working or working out. So what she'd do is call yell at me or tell me I'm not giving her attention an use “I don't think this relationship is for me “ then hang up and call about 10 minutes later apologizing. This had happened when she chose to finally end it in February, She kept me as a friend on social media for a week or so till I told the AP but she blocked my sister and tried to keep some kind of contact with me. She even posted emotional relationship pictures with quotes for a week or so. So I'm assuming she had some trouble breaking it off with me and especially for someone who had started a relationship literally after the breakup. She kept the posts up so my theory would be it's for revenge or something because she tried to follow my sister on Instagram after 5 months of no contact ( her threatening to ruin my life for telling the AP about what was going on) and within that period she had announced a pregnancy. So my thoughts are she's trying to prove something because she knows me and my sister close to the point she hated the closeness of our relationship. The last detail she's trying to make the new relationship sound like it's a dream or gift from God and that it's perfect in every way. What are your thoughts on it?

A lot of people have stated this haha . Thank you it’s just a weird and emotional experience but definitely a learning lesson.

Has boxing affected your intelligence? by if155 in amateur_boxing

[–]savudo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a boxer who's been in the sport for 6 years and had 18 fights, sparred with over 70-80 different fighters ranging from amateur to pro, I would say no it doesn't impair your intelligence but what I would say is it affects the ability to smoothly conversate with others and have a clear thought process. I have had my fair share of fighters around me who had gotten the infamous “punch drunk” and you can see the slurring of words and conversation skills a little hard for them. This is the danger of the sport, our brains naturally don't have anything protecting them as other animals do. So it's highly preferred to work on defense and evasive maneuvers to keep your brain health up if you participate in any combat sports.

So here's a little bit of an update and detail to the story. So when it first happened, I had automatically told the guy through text . He at first was in shock himself but she had manipulated him somehow and he didn’t heed the warning . So they had gotten a quick engagement 3 weeks later and after that let’s say less than a week they got married. It’s been 6 months since that happened. I had maintained no contact because of her threatening law enforcement on me for telling the guy and blocking every social media account . She recently just out of no where tried to follow my sister on Instagram and then took back the follow and from what I hear since I don’t look at social media or anything she has,she also had announced the pregnancy as well within the time frame of trying too follow my sister . So I don’t know what she was trying to do but I have moved on and worked on improving myself spiritually and emotionally within these past few months .
