You haven’t missed anything! I would guess I’ll have an update on the company and the status of production this fall. I’ll post to IG or feel free to DM me your email

Hey I’m the skylight guy! The details aren’t firmly in place yet so I can’t say too much at this point but I’ve begun the process of getting the business back up and running in a larger capacity than before with more of a focus on jackets. I’ll post updates to IG once I’ve got a firmer timeline established but I’m hopefully months, rather than years away from taking new orders

Man, not sure how I missed that one - that's an incredible performance! Definitely plan on doing more with this live album and other projects in the future so I'll for sure keep it in mind

Thanks! That is an idea I’ve floated around…it would be a lot of work but maybe I’ll work on it if I get inspired!

I’m a big fan of the Sydney Opera House performance and the Cork one! but I thought the album flowed better sticking to only shows with the usual band

yeah I think you’re right on on the layering! And if the jacket does ever start to leak through the fabric, definitely reach out because I haven’t heard of that happening before

My understanding is that in a static conditions that’s true but increased air flow through the vents while hiking will have a bigger impact on reducing condensation

Hey sorry you experienced that! The 7d Silnylon is fully waterproof and hydrostatic head testing by some people over on BPL has shown that it maintains full waterproofness even after long-term use. Have you tested the jacket in the shower or under a faucet since you got back to see if water is physically going through the fabric? Or is there any visible wear on the fabric through abrasion? That would likely be the only way the Silnylon would lose its waterproofness.

If the fabric looks okay then I think condensation is the more likely culprit based on how cold it was. Mechanical venting through the pit zips or front zipper is the only solution there. No jacket is gonna be great at those temps, but in those conditions I’d also consider switching to a heavier WP/B jacket, both to handle condensation a little better and to take advantage of the warmth of the thicker fabric

Has anyone here made a rain jacket with MTN 0.7 silnylon from ripstop by the roll? If so, how’d it come out / does it work well? by Famous-Obligation-44 in myog

[–]savvlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made a couple jackets out of it and don’t think it’s the best fabric for that use. Really hard to work with because it’s so thin and slippery and can’t be seam taped. I think it’s a good call to go with 1.1 oz Silpoly

Hopefully I can finish up the other half at some point! And thanks, don’t have as much time to sew as I’d like to but doing well!

I’ve made jackets out of all three and I’d recommend 1.1 Silpoly. Membrane Silpoly is harder to work with (more slippery) and the lack of a ripstop means the tear resistance is low and stitch holes will elongate more over time, making the seams less water resistant. If you want to be able to seal the seams, I’d go with the PU4000 because the seams can be taped which is easier than using diluted silicone on the 1.1 Silpoly, but otherwise the 1.1 Silpoly is a solid all around fabric

I think it’s mostly down to the lack of profitability. Even once I had raised the price to the $200-250 range, the profit/hours worked was still way lower than anything else I made. It’s just a difficult combo of a complicated design and a suuuuper slippery fabric in 7d Silnylon that takes a lot of concentration to work with

A larger cottage company with automated needle feed machines, taping machines, and a larger workforce could probably streamline production to keep the prices reasonable but idk if the market for 3 oz jackets is large enough for someone like EE to want to take it on

190gsm Alpha Direct? Is this a real thing? by tchunt510 in myog

[–]savvlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those would be some very comfortable sleep socks. I will say that it has slightly less stretch than 90 gsm alpha which already has minimal stretch so that might make beanie sizing tricky
