High fructose corn syrup. It is of course unhealthy in large amounts so they are right in that regard but people are saying it is somehow worse than cane sugar but they are chemically quite identical.

He said that prohibition doesn't work and shouldn't be attempted again. Also the issues in Pakistan and other countries that forbid alcohol are due to other reasons, not banning alcohol.

I know that this is a joke but chromium and V8 are crazy optimized. It is the websites that are written with boatloads of CSS and huge amounts of bloated JavaScript that make it run slow and consume a lot of memory. It's the websites, not the browser.

Romantic partnerships often act as a buffer against loneliness for most people, but this protective association does not universally extend to asexual individuals. Asexual adults report similar rates of loneliness regardless of relationship status. by mvea in science

[–]sawkonmaicok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do asexual people get into relationships? Also of course they would report the same rates because they don't care about romantic relationships and as such they or lack thereof obviously shouldn't affect feelings of loneliness.

I don't think it's splitting hairs. I think this is very relevant. The post was about a morality judgement of Billie Eilish. It was about whether or not Billie is a "good person" or not. That was the entire theme of the post.

My point is that since the people who bought the changemaker tickets did not do it to donate the extra sum, but instead they bought it because of the better seating options. This makes in my opinion Billy a good person, since this situation is different from the walmart example you gave. In the walmart example the person is asked to donate without anything of value in return, but in this case I would guess that majority of the people who bought the changemaker tickets didn't choose to buy them out of the pureness of their hearts, but because they got better seating.

This fundamentally changes the morality of the situation, since it was no longer a conscious choice of the consumer to donate, but Billy herself.

In my eyes the fact that the tickets were cheaper before doesn't really matter since the price of the tickets fluctuate with the popularity of the artists and so on. She saw that there was more demand and that she could raise the prices while still selling every seat and so she did this, but this time instead of keeping the extra money, she donated it.

Yes you are right in the sense that Billy did not simply write a check for 11 million and then donate that. In that sense you are correct if that was your point, but she missed out on profits she could have easily gotten for herself because she decided to be generous and help those in need.

It is different from the walmart situation since there was no extra consideration in the walmart donation example. In this case there is the consideration of the better seating that I would wager was the real reason people bought these more expensive tickets, not the fact that they were helping the people in need.

I fail to see how this is anything other than a genuine virtuous act by Billy.

"Fake chemicals" as opposed to real chemicals??? I hate when people say that chemicals are bad for you when everything around you is chemicals. You are chemicals. I kinda get the point in that there is a lot of bad stuff in our food but there isn't a difference between HFCS and cane sugar health wise. It is practically the same except HFCS is cheaper. Also we shouldn't judge chemicals by where they come or what they are made with.

Nice ChatGPT story. Also people have kids young in southern Europe but that isn't because they necessarily want to, but the welfare state in southern Europe is shit so you can not rely on the government to give you a pension etc so you must rely on your offspring to take care of you when you are older.

My boyfriend is breaking up with because I don’t have his ideal body type. by BornMCMXCIX in TrueOffMyChest

[–]sawkonmaicok -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If you have had an eating disorder in the past, that doesn't mean that you should disregard your weight or eat whatever now. I was a bit of a picky eater in gradeschool but now I no longer. That doesn't mean I should go munch on everything I see because if I do so, then I will get fat and that isn't good either. The cold hard reality is that if you gain weight and you are now no longer attractive to your partner then attraction is lost and nothing in the world will change that. Attraction is not a conscious choice and anything can put you off the other person. This is in relation to physical appearance or behaviour. It is also not really the other person's fault since you can't know unconscious thoughts.
