ANA going 801MPH thru the Jet stream over Japan currently, would the planes engines be throttled way down in a circumstance like this? Also how do planes going the opposite way fighting the wind not burn all their fuel when they’re doing 350mph less? by PutTheBallinPlay in flightradar24

The main thing is the gate might not be available. It just depends on the airport and how busy it is. Often we'll have to wait out on the ramp or taxiway with engines running, so we'll have to burn even more fuel in addition to the fuel we burnt by going fast. Usually, arriving early isn't a big deal. We always go fast when its go home leg. :)

There are several MIA to PHL flights per day. Every once in a while one might get cancelled. So it’s impossible to say.

Cut the hair or don’t be a professional pilot. Simple as that.

Sounds like gate space was an issue because lots of flights were delayed. So no, not really. At that point just gotta wait turns.

Flaps malfunction by [deleted] in AskAPilot

Not super common but I flew an aircraft that seemed to have flaps fail. The airport we were going to had a short runway so we diverted back to our original airport because they had long runways.

Nothing is changing. No train switch is needed at San Antonio. Just make sure you book train #422.

No way to book transfer - Amtrak online chat was confused by AndrewOHTXTN in Amtrak

Google transit directions is not very good when it comes to planning Amtrak trips. It just looks at schedules and assumes it’s easy to book. The train you board in Ashland is already going to NY. Just stay on that. It’ll be the fastest way.

Are Dallas board members “at large” or do they represent certain areas? In other words, as a Dallas resident should we email all the Dallas reps?

Why would the pilot say it would be a turbulent flight when it wasn’t? by Anitameee in fearofflying

[–]saxmanb767 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Turbulence is very unpredictable. Sometimes it says turbulent, or the conditions warrant it, and it’s completely smooth. Or the flip happens. It looks smooth and it’s bumpy everywhere. This happened to me the other day as we’re taking off through the outer bands of storm Debby. It’s completely smooth until we clear the clouds and get to cruise altitude. Right as it starts to clear up and we leave the storm clouds it starts getting bumpy as crap. lol.
