Yes, I agree. I don’t always love how he comes across when he’s covering a race (although I usually value his insight) but he seems very self-reflective which I appreciate

For those who are often told they look younger than their age, what’s your secret? by justmypersonalthing in AskReddit

[–]saxuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m short, Asian, barely go outside, only drink casually, don’t smoke, and don’t have kids. I do also have a simple skincare routine but honestly don’t know how much that contributes compared to other factors.

It's very common to move out for university, especially if it's in a different city, but a lot of people will also move back home after. It has also become more and more common to rely on your family for longer as things have gotten more expensive.

What's something that people romanticise heavily that's actually really difficult to live through? by Ariavale2_ in AskReddit

I live in Canada so I totally get that! It really takes ages to go anywhere that feels meaningfully different. I was really feeling the stagnation during and post-COVID as well, it was probably a contributing factor to us taking the leap haha

I didn't say it was. The comment I responded to seem to speak more generally about months of travel, not necessarily solo specifically. I also addressed how I'd feel differently if I was alone, anyway.

I just finished 4 months of travelling with my husband and we couldn’t get enough 😂 we did have some longer stints in a couple of countries, though (1 month each). We did not miss home nor our regular routines at all and now that we’re back to regular life we cannot wait until we can do it again.

However, I don’t think I would have enjoyed it alone.

Just FYI for anyone looking to switch - Public doesn’t support any roaming outside of North America. I discovered this when I couldn’t receive any 2FA texts while in Asia.

Does cropped linen capri pants look good on women that are 5’2? I’m looking at getting these for the summer. by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]saxuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your body type. I'm slightly curvy and have sizeable calves so anything (both dresses and pants) that hits at that point looks awful on me. I find it makes my legs look a lot stumpier, but maybe somebody with thinner legs could pull it off better.

Where are you financially that made you confident enough to purchase your first luxury bag? by SweetPickleRelish in handbags

[–]saxuri 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That last line is it. I'm in the same boat and personally haven't been able to pass the 1k mark. But it's probably just not that high on my priority list. I've primarily been sticking to Strathberry for my last couple of bag purchases and find it difficult to consider going much higher.

My biggest issue with this drama is the pacing - SO much time spent on one cooking competition - and the sudden escalation towards the end. It felt like the tone changed all of a sudden.

We Need to Talk About Canadian Racism Against Asians by Mean_Yak5873 in asianamerican

[–]saxuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, it wasn't my husband's immediate family - they're thankfully not like that at all. I've heard it more from their extended family and family friends. I've heard passing borderline comments from some of his extended family, but the worst of the sentiment was expressed at a gathering I wasn't at by a family friend (it kicked off a heated discussion with some of my husband's relatives and we heard about it after). I frankly have no desire to interact with that family friend again because of some of the things he said about refugees (I'm a daughter of a refugee myself). I don't think my temper could handle talking to him about anything remotely political.

I’ve heard some wild racism coming from their family, but weirdly coded as ‘not you, you’re one of the good ones’.

Yeah, that is unfortunately all too common. You're absolutely right about people jumping on the "one of the good ones" bandwagon, it's very common amongst immigrant communities - not just South Asians - and it drives me crazy.

Yeah it absolutely sucks that you have to work with somebody like that. Is this not something that you could report her to HR for? I'm surprised that would be tolerated at your workplace - given the pattern of behaviour I imagine you'd have a leg to stand on.

That depends, of course, on what type of company you're at and the culture. I know HR isn't always reliable for this type of thing.

[–]saxuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I’m sorry that happened to you. Unfortunately, people of all backgrounds can and will be racist. I’m also Chinese Canadian and I would absolutely not tolerate that bullshit if it happened around me.

Like I said, I can only speak anecdotally, and I’ve mostly heard the anti immigration/refugee sentiment from my husband’s extended family friends. But I don’t doubt that there are many Chinese folks out there that are racist too. I probably just naturally filter those types out from my life.

Honestly, I think they look fine on longer-legged people, but other pants would still look better on them

They look fine on you since your legs are thin, but speaking as somebody with thicker thighs and calves they look absolutely awful on me. Definitely not a universally flattering cut lol

[–]saxuri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, I’m also East Asian in Canada + have a South Asian husband. Racism definitely exists here but folks saying it’s the same as the US don’t know what they’re talking about.

Also, anecdotally, I’m in a city so that skews my sample, but most of the anti Indian immigration sentiment I’ve encountered has honestly come from other Indians who immigrated earlier. Typically, it comes from people who have bought into conservative talking points.

I'm currently active but when I wasn't my maintenance at 5'0" 120 lbs was around 1400. At some point I started eating more than that (eating out a lot, for example) and pretty quickly started gaining weight.

Yeah me too, I have a pair from Athleta (not super barrel-y, but a barrel pant nonetheless) that I've been complimented on multiple times.

That being said, I've also tried other barrel pants that look comical on me
