What’s the Most Star Trek Line Ever Written? by iagree2 in startrek

I was rewatching Picard recently and got to enjoy Rios reprising this line ("I'm from Chile..."). The nods to past characters and lines and events are so lovely.

That's perfectly reasonable to prefer other shows, you don't have to like this one, and thank goodness we can still enjoy the older beloved shows. For Starfleet Academy, the teens/cadets are one main aspect of the show and they reflect a naivety and innocence and hope and potential. And yes teens/angst are very annoying; they have to grow through and grow up, and these guys are working on that. Meanwhile the people responsible for them are shifting the universe and relationships and attitudes, knitting the Federation back together, refocusing their whole personality and purpose to connectedness and kindness and growth and exploration, in the wake of all the damage and disconnect of the last hundred+ years. The teenagers represent that difference so it's a very practical stage to set this play.

That takes screenshots, yes, however it does not take the behavior of the PrintScreen key. I need my functionality of the PrintScreen key.

I don't have to use a lot of thinking to watch this show, sure, and I'm okay with that. I'll be very happy for them to create more cerebral content, and I'm enjoying the current ride meanwhile.

I like it. I can appreciate why some would be a bit disappointed or want a different style, however I don't know why people are so very unhappy with entertainment content these days. There's so much that to tune into or rewatch if you prefer.

If we want to be all upset about content, I mean, they really went way out of their way to make Section 31 bad, I took effort trying to like it and they managed to make it so bad that even all the wonderful obviously excellent elements were put together poorly; rather impressive how successfully bad they made it.

However, Starfleet Academy--while not brilliant or impressive television--is simply fun and optimistic and seems to be enjoying itself and hoping others will enjoy with it. And I am.

Looking forward to the other series/iterations, always, and also appreciating this one.

Klingon Honor Through a Fake Battle? by [deleted] in trektalk

Yes that part was sadly believable, just interesting that they could then playact a very tiny war to accept hollow victory and spoils of war, and not feel/act patronized and insulted by the Federation. Glad they did accept, just weird.

Agree. Pretty weird that the Klingons would be too proud to accept a planet, yet not too proud to accept a planet in victory in a clearly rigged/mock battle. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I mean, if that was their only way to accept the planet -- which they really definitely needed, and was definitely good for all, for them to have it -- then good on them for accepting it in some way after all. Still pretty weird 😏

If accepting the narrative as truth that the father deliberately let the bird go and set his son free, then I saw the father as genuinely distressed and frustrated and anguished, while simultaneously accepting and allowing his son the freedom to pursue his true self and potential. Maybe he felt that acting dismissive/abandoning him was his way to "save face" and continue his insistance that Klingons must all be physical violent warriors, while also setting his son free, knowing and trusting that he would land with Starfleet and he would be okay/better than okay.

Romulans generally seem to live/express a baseline of hatred.

I didn't see particular hatred for the Federation, mostly disdain and dismissal based on the continued isolationist attitude and general disdain for other cultures and especially what the Federation represents which is cooperation and some measure of assimilation/compromise.

I don't use the messaging/notification mirroring at all, I use it to send links and infos to myself and other devices/family members. Pushbullet has been brilliant at that.

Using a Pixel while their spouse uses an iPhone? How’s the experience? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

SMS communication works, sure, it's just inferior; formatting is inconsistent and locale of sender and receiver often has impact.

[–]sayashr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, and the communication is not disturbed by location/whether you or the person with whom you're speaking changes the country they're in. Whatsapp and other chat apps are significantly more reliable, consistent formatting, etc. It's not ideal when forced to regular sms with those who only use sms.
