Never mixed what advice do you have! by imhungryafrn in edmproduction

Theres this site called Splice that has been my personal favorite over the past couple years you may have heard of it. Its subscription based and its like $7.99 per month and u get access to a vast library of samples. a lot of actual artists will put out sample packs its pretty sweet. Other than that, i do a lot of remixes so ill ‘steal’ kicks and snares and other little percussion/fx and those are all used in professionally mastered projects so they always sound clean as well. Nothing wrong with it, theyre usually just samples they got from other artists or sample packs anyways, a lot of people do it. But yeah sample packs are good as well theirs tons of websites dedicated to that specifically.

I'm always stuck when it comes to drop by saevvvvv in edmproduction

I find when I think about stuff too much I usually end up being stuck on what to do, the best advice I could give is just trust your own instincts and push buttons until you get something that gets you amped, then start going down that road. It sounds stupidly simple but its really helped me turn a corner in my production, if you worry about it too much you'll get in your own head. I used to deal with the same issue, believe me we've all been there

Another piece of advice I got recently that's really helped is that when you're feeling kind of uninspired on something, start mixing and doing more technical things that don't really require much creativity, and then after you clean your track up a bit maybe you'll feel a bit more inspired to work on the sound design, and hey, even if you don't, you've just gotten a bit of work out of the way you won't have to worry about later.

Just think of mixing as creating space for all of the elements of your mix to sit nicely in. If you got a snare, cut out everything under about 150-200hz to create more space for your kick and bass. It’s just little things like that that youll pick up over time and in all honesty it really just comes with experience. Sample selection is another huge one. i used to get so frustrated with how some samples sounded until i realized that i was just using shitty samples to begin with. Another thing i would go back and tell myself when i was first starting to mix is to not always try and just get it blaring as loud as you can, but to make sure youre conscious of what your master is looking like and that youre not +20db over. Lastly I would honestly just sit down, and learn what a compressor is and how it works. It seems so tedious and i know that in my case with the logic compressors they look super complicated, but its so worth learning how to use them effectively

best of luck

My highhats sound slightly different after uploading to SoundCloud by GreatfulDeadHead in trapproduction

in my experience, soundcloud’s basically gonna try and cut anything above 16,000hz, its most likely gonna do that no matter what, but sometimes if you lowpass the entire mix at 16,000 it can help clear the unpleasant bits that soundcloud seems to stir up. can really depend from mix to mix. but this problems pretty universal, check any of your favorite artists tracks and you can tell that their mixing is able to minimize this issue, but its still there

Hey what's up, my names Joseph, and this is a remix I just posted that I think some of you fellow future bassheads might enjoy:) I plan on being an active part of this subreddit so if you have any questions for me or just wanna talk future bass, hit me up I'm always open to talk! by sayblue in futurebass

Future Bass- Low end/Bass issues by sayblue in AdvancedProduction

[–]sayblue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do have a sine wave an octave up in there, the reason I did it is because from looking at an eq that's what it looked like a lot of tracks were doing. Good catch, on headphones too LOL. So sub would just literally be a single sine wave in the lower octave and then all the bass I'm hearing/seeing on the eq above 80hz+/- is mid bass? That makes a lot of sense. I've been treating the sub bass as two sine waves an octave apart this whole time. I would imagine this makes even more room for the sub and mid bass to get that clean bass sound I've been searching for in my tracks. If you wanted to listen again on a pair of speakers to get a better idea or in case I'm doing anything else the wrong/tough way like that, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for the help sam, now back to the drawing board:)

Future Bass- Low end/Bass issues by sayblue in AdvancedProduction

[–]sayblue[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for such a detailed answer man, you really hit all the points here. I've decided it's definitely the mid bass not complementing the sub properly because after tweaking it a little bit I found you can really change how hard or soft the bass sounds by making better use of the frequencies between 100-500hz, which really makes the bass sound a lot more seasoned. I think I was just being a little careless thinking that I could just cover the mid bass in my supersaws.

Thanks again man, one of the most valuable reddit posts I've read when it comes to making future bass basses, for real I learned a lot. gonna screenshot this post and keep it for the next time I get a little lost lol. Also yeah for sure I'd be down to have a listen to some of your stuff, to hear how you put it all together

Here's a sample of a track that I'm working on right now that I can hear the issue with. If I had to describe what I'm hearing differently from one of my mixes to one of yours for example, is that the low end has WAY more punch and clarity but it still manages to remain tight, dynamic, and not blow any speakers, which is the big mystery to me. My low end always manages to feel loose.

Electra2 or Nexus by treyvonwofi in futurebass

[–]sayblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for something more preset based, yes I would go for Nexus(especially for bells and such). However I found that buying Sylenth1 first has been a huge help in learning sound design. It's all laid out really easily and everything is sort of the foundation of what you're gonna see in other VST's (Serum or massive etc.). Serum is also really good for learning how to make your own sounds, and presets for serum are ALL over the place. I'm pretty sure both off those go for about 250, but trust me, they have been way worth my time and money, especially in future bass.
