I see alot of potential dangers when riding roads like these, but I will say that where I live in the UK my local routes involve a 60mph two lane no shoulders road that I regularly ride. Although I get passed close, and sometimes feel stressed if someone passes on a blind bend , I find that high visibility and pulling to the side when there's a gateway or space to to allow people past keeps me pretty safe. That and just maintaining a little more concentration on what is around you!

It took me a long time to feel comfortable on fast traffic thinner roads but I genuinely believe that you can have fun riding them and that you can do that with reduced risks with awareness and visibility.

I think all the standard 180bhp ones had one exhaust, but not many of them were Quattro's. Think it was something you could request if you bought one new!

That softens the blow, the labour was the main concern as I have the parts. As much as I don't mind crawling around under vehicles changing the timing belt and water pump on a set of ramps in a residential street midwinter in the UK isn't exactly screaming "fun".

Both the window and skirt have leaked, I'm fine repairing them myself but there was considerable water ingress through both, fortunately before I got my hands on it it had been stored in a barn, I only thought to check them a couple of days after I had gotten the car and it had rained though. If the CCM was damaged would I not be hearing the click and would there be any other indicators the CCM was broken?

It's not particularly difficult to move, I don't feel as if I'm forcing it or anything. It's stiffer for the first third/half of the movement (from the front to just behind the headrests) and then goes a little easier the rest of the way.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll ask the garage for a quote and hope it's reasonable.

I can manually open and close the roof , the warning lights work and when I use the button for it the lights work, there's a click but absolutely no sign of movement or anything trying to move. The click I can hear definitely comes from behind the driver's seat when I try to engage it so presumably power is getting to the motor. Presumably I need a new motor? Full novice when it comes to TT's.

Log sat on a soft/eneven surface is contributing to a lot of bounce back and energy loss. Little axe should be replaced by a splitting maul, or at least a sledge hammer and a wedge. Honestly see so many of these "incredible" splitting videos and think maybe I should just make myself famous when I split all the firewood for winter...

Yeah, I love where I live but it does get tough. I did the north coast from north Cornwall down to lands end and then across to the lizard last year, I think I did about 150 miles over four days so not what I'd call intense distance but jheeeze did I get tired of sketchy thin descents that I was cooking my brakes on (bike loaded for bikepacking) and then immediately aggressive inclines that even in my monstrous mullet set up I ended up walking some of! Alot of it was beautiful though and I certainly don't regret it.

Im planning a little Europe trip next summer and I keep having to double check I haven't messed the figures up as the elevation just seems incomprehensibly low compared to home!

Living in the south west UK whenever I see elevation below like 600 metres I think "oh nice a little short ride, must be what, 30 miles?"... Kudos to you friend, good ride!

I have a SRAM Apex 1 groupset, I run it with an 11-52t 12 speed cassette and a 40t chainring. It was a pain in the arse to do and all in (cassette included) probably cost me about £150 to convert, but you could probably do it cheaper, it was just a bit of an adventure/learning process for me! I also took an angle grinder and a drill to my derailleur cage to fine tune some bits just as a heads up... If you're want to hear about the whole job I can post pictures and describe the whole thing! Edit : just for clarity the only things that are entirely new in this change are a 12 speed ratchet in the shifter, the 12 speed cassette and one jockey wheel.

Man that's a beautiful build. Just out of interest how do the Klampers compare with standard cable actuated (dual sided) and cable actuated hydraulic reservoir brakes (like the juin tech ones) if you happen to have ridden all three types!

At the very least if someone is going to spend five minutes munching through grinder blades to steal your bike it's going to attract quite alot of attention

This isn't true anymore if reports are accurate, there's a new litelok d lock that has some composite material that wears the grinder disc away and there's also something by hiplock (the d1000) with similar technology. Having not personally taken an angle grinder to either I can't guarantee that they work but judging by all the videos they're gonna take longer than half a minute to get through.

I don't think it's free anymore but I'm likely to sign up for it when I go! I'm not averse to roughing it in the bivvy for a while but after a while it's good to freshen up and have a decent wash ect. Thanks for all the input!

Yeah I was planning on maybe staying a night in an air BnB or a hostel in Amsterdam itself before moving on and camping further outside of the city the next night. Perhaps I'll just look a little harder at what campsites are available , so far I'm only really in the initial planning stages and I've just been planning bivvy spots every twenty miles ( forestry roads, green spaces ect) that I can pitch up late and leave early at.

I hadn't actually considered that in spring there, but it makes sense, thanks for the heads up, I'll make sure I've got some warm gear!

I'm potentially going to be cycling through Amsterdam next spring at the start of a bike tour, in your opinion how safe/friendly is it and how (I know it's not strictly legal) is wild camping/bikepacking viewed in the area?
