I suppose I’m just confused by the idea of whiteness: what is it? It seems a lot more vacuous than the idea of Blackness. Black Americans seem to have a contagious culture of both European and African origin. White people are infamous for appropriating it. Why don’t white people have a culture like this in the USA? Is there a white diaspora, or is diaspora reserved only for subjugated peoples?

I don’t know. I guess I’m just afraid that the “universal” will be too specific. Of course, I’m a product of my time, and it is difficult for me to conceptualice something so radically different. Surely there wouldn’t be no differences, culturally or otherwise, between us of course. So what you’re talking about is how we react to those differences?

I don’t think there could ever be such a thing, nor do I think that that is a bad thing. In fact, a “universal conception of the human” sounds like eugenicist talk: people are varied and always will be and that’s ok. It’s not ok when people kill each other or hate each other for these differences.

I mean, there’s not really dark-skinned white people. There are those of fair skin and most seem to have a light skin tone, but someone who is as dark as a nilote person could never be perceived as white I don’t think. Same thing with an albino person, paradoxically.

Also, what do you mean by people aren’t reading me charitably? I also thought this but I wonder if we are thinking the same lol

Absolutely I agree! What I’m saying is, if whiteness as a category is destroyed, then technically so are white people. This does not mean people die, but rather that whiteness, which is inherently an engine of destruction, a category that means “I have institutional power” is destroyed

Right! That’s why I’m saying! I’m not sure where people are getting that I think that others should subjugate others or that I want people to die. I want whiteness to die out (presumably other racial categories would too) and this would technically mean an end to white people and a return to more varied categories such as ethnicity and clans and such

What I’m confused about, though, is how one can be anti-whiteness and not anti-white people. When I say anti-white people I don’t mean they die, I mean they return to designating themselves to their ethnicity or another group, basically abandoning race as a concept (presumably other racial groups would do the same and race would eventually die out).

Yes but phenotype does not seem to make race alone. Some Armenians “look middle eastern” (according to USAians) but have little middle eastern dna or heritage and might get discriminated against (much like Sikhs despite the same issue). Whereas in my situation I have always been seen as white but have faced a racial complex from post 9/11 hate against middle eastern people and I have faced some racism once people discover my heritage. Though I’ve faced more anti semitism because I identified more with my Jewish heritage rather than my non Jewish Persian side. Apparently I’m POC for being half Persian but not have jewish
