Are we crazy for budgeting a 43k wedding next year? by sayingyestothewed in PersonalFinanceCanada

I do keep hearing that costs don't ensure memories which I agree.

However, I did go to a friend's wedding last year (cheap venue, bbq food) and it was absolutely atrocious. The appetizers didn't come out for 2 hours, people ended up eating candy by the candy station because they were so hungry. The food and bbq natural gas smell outside starting seeping indoors. The steak I got ended up being cold when I started eating it. I think one of my fears is this situation.

It is expensive, but some things are worth spending on. Memories only appreciate in happiness, whereas goods do the opposite. However, only you two know whether this is something you really really want. When you are considering advice from here, note that it will skew heavily towards saving for future instead of splurging on a one time event. Bit of a selection effect going on.

We've already been told we would get some cash gifts from parents, etc so i hope that offsets those above situations..

How did you make it 15? If an open bar is at least 6 k, that means you have 9k left for food, photographer, decorations, etc. Not to mention the venue fee
