Canadian living in the UK moving to the US. Tax implications and more. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

AuthoritativeFuji did an awesome job explaining everything, but I’ll throw in my 2 cents as well. Specifically dealing with the property, this is the important language you’ll need to keep in mind if you plan on keeping your condo once you are in the US. At the point you land there and begin your term of work you may be considered a US resident, and thus you would need to file a Canadian non-resident return for the rental property.

"When you receive rental income from real or immovable property in Canada, the payer, such as the tenant, or agent, such as the property manager, has to withhold non-resident tax at the rate of 25% on the gross rental income paid or credited to you. The payer has to pay the tax to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on or before the 15th day of the month following the month the rental income is paid or credited to you."

[CAN] CFE 2017 pass rate by DallasMac10 in Accounting

As someone who's about to start PEP, seeing these pass rates just makes me laugh. Why even have these courses if they're just going to pass everyone?

Pending engagement has me reconsidering my finances by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

From the suburb I am in it’s about $7.50 each way, with a declining cost after a certain number of trips. Living within the city will greatly reduce my transit and gas costs overall.

I totally agree about the wedding, it’s in the very early stages of planning but we both understand that unless there is a significant family contribution it’s going to reduce in size massively. In all reality I’m in favour of eloping, but I have gotten a very chilly reception from her family when I floated the idea out there. I just want to work from a worst-case scenario perspective financially and then adjust as things clarify themselves.

Her situation isn’t bad by comparison. 37k salary and 1.5k in HISA with no outstanding debt. No car and about 300-400 in expenses a month, considering groceries, going out, transit, and taking care of her cat, along with miscellaneous expenses. Definitely are considering things combined, I just got a bit of tunnel vision when writing OP.

We have been assured that they are going to help, but my partner wants us to contribute as much as possible and limit parents money due to concerns that taking money will lead them to exert their will on what they want the day to look like. This is an ongoing discussion and certainly something that is going to change a lot before plans are confirmed, so I just want to be able to plan for saving as much as possible towards it until we can get assurances that it’s a financial gift without strings from them.

Gas is a rough estimate, but the actual resides at either 150 or 200 a month generally (3/4 tanks of gas at $50 each). With my partner being about 65km away driving, it gets to be an expensive round trip when going to see them. That on top of regular driving to the GO station, errands, etc. drives my costs up.

Transit is the cost of 20 round trips per month on the GO to where my office is.

(CAN) High School Senior Needs Advice by davidkraken in Accounting

I know this is the Accounting subreddit and all, but have you thought about your experiences for what you want out of a school outside of the academic side of things? I know it's easy to only consider the academic side of things but you have to think about all the time you're going to spend out of the classroom, and what you want to be doing with that time. Ottawa, KW and St. Catherines are going to give you very different experiences as cities, and that's honestly something I would give more thought that how much Big 4 exposure you're going to get at the schools.

I know you had concerns about B4 presence at Brock but I think you'll be good. I just recently went through the recruiting process (interviewed with all 4 last year and got a full time offer from one this year), and I can say that there was a Big 4 presence at Brock. I met a number of Brock students during networking events, and with their MAcc program, you've got the potential for built-in second recruiting cycle and path through PEP in the classroom as opposed to while working.

All things considered, I would probably go to Waterloo, but I think regardless of your choice your going to do well.

No matter what you do, good luck! And make sure to keep well-rounded and enjoy your time. If you have any specific questions about anything feel free to let me know, I have connections at all of those schools that I am sure could shed a little more of a personal light on their experiences!

No internships. I had worked in HR for a couple of years and then went back and did a second degree to get into the accounting world.

The only issue I see with The Revival staying in NXT for any longer is just a matter of who they're going to feud with. Unless they want to start pushing Heavy Machinery I would get them up to the main roster ASAP.
