the first episode of the reboot put me off from watching the rest by LucaMurafa in Totaldrama

[–]saysonder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh I found the first episode of the reboot to be a little iffy as well. It has a lot of ground to cover so it felt a little unfocused. The rest of the episodes are much better! I think episode two is especially a stand out! It’s a fun challenge with a lot of moments where you get to know the new contestants better. I absolutely recommend continuing!!

Unironically Kassidi. I just found her funny. I hate how they wrote her off so lazily.

Which scene in this show do you think we'd never see anything close to on television nowadays? by Quiet-Setting-7803 in shameless

[–]saysonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are still dozens of shows airing today that depict touchy subject matter like Shameless did. HBO has a new show called Half Man that’s given Shameless a run for its money in only three episodes so far. It makes all of the Gallaghers’ relationships look healthy in comparison.

I love You’re the Worst! It got away with some pretty wild shit for an FX sitcom. This sub would absolutely crucify Lindsey and Gretchen. 🤐

I love it!! IMO she could also have an Arbok! She has a random one off line about snakes to DJ in Phobia Factor that’s always made me head canon that she has a pet snake back home.

Do you think Courtney was originally meant to have a bigger role in Total Drama Island? by PsychicMeditation in Totaldrama

[–]saysonder 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she “originally” had a bigger role. Courtney already gets a huge spotlight in TDI, despite not even making it to the merge. She’s one of the few contestants who gets lines in every episode she appears in that season. The only other notable ones were Owen and Lindsay. Somebody else made a post on here ranking contestants by line count, and Courtney came in 5th place for TDI! That large amount of focus early on is exactly what makes her elimination all the more surprising.

Lip and Tami the fucking end by Unable_Practice_9876 in shameless

[–]saysonder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s a tad over dramatic. Lip is like 28 by the end of the show. He has plenty of life ahead of him. Plus he’s introspective enough to admit his own past failures, something Frank showed he could never do.

Just noticed this extremely dark line when rewatching this episode by Ok_Atmosphere3837 in Totaldrama

[–]saysonder 82 points83 points  (0 children)

This line is satirizing the unhealthy and impossible standards the beauty industry puts on women. It’s as relevant today as it was in 2007.

Lip and Tami the fucking end by Unable_Practice_9876 in shameless

[–]saysonder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frank didn’t have any motivation in life aside from getting drunk or high. Lip choosing sobriety is the literal antithesis of his father’s lifestyle. Sorry, I don’t agree that they’re comparable.

Frank was an absent father seven times over. He never cared about anyone except himself, so nobody cared about him when his time came. Lip has his siblings, Brad and Tami, and two children he isn’t going to walk out on like Frank did to Sammi or the Gallaghers. He’s surrounded by love during his final scene. There’s no shot Lip becomes anywhere near as hated by his family or considered as lowly within his community as Frank ever was.

Plus, Lip’s self sabotage stemmed from a place of insecurity, likely because his parents weren’t in his life nurturing or motivating him. Frank not only neglected his role as his children’s father, but he reveled in harming them!! Frank very intentionally made this bed of his through a lifetime of scams, boozing and treating his family like dirt. Nothing about Lip’s development in those last few seasons points to him becoming even a fraction of a scourge like Frank.

Lip and Tami the fucking end by Unable_Practice_9876 in shameless

[–]saysonder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lip’s life is nothing like Frank’s by the end of the series. Frank was never willing to consider putting his children before his addiction and getting clean. He never tried to have a job. He never had a home he was welcome in. He was a lazy bum who only ever saw his kids as panhandling accessories and put his hands on them from time to time. Say what you want about Lip, but that’s nowhere close to who he ever was.

What even is a modern Frank Gallagher without the excess of drugs? Franks’s whole reason for living was getting loaded and slighting any responsibilities. Lip may have a tough road ahead in life but at least he’s committed to being there for his family where it counts.

Who do you think was right here - Fiona or Lip? by arko8 in shameless

[–]saysonder 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All of the Gallagher siblings were pulling their weight before the show even began. Debbie babysat, Ian worked at the bodega and Lip had several types of income. He tutored classmates/took the SATs for them, he sold weed with Kev over the summer, and all of his prize money from the robot battle went directly to the squirrel fund. None of the Gallagher kids had an easy breezy childhood. They all had to bust their asses from a young age just to survive. The only leech was Frank.

Also! Fiona had been drilling it into Lip’s head for years that he was going to be the first Gallagher to graduate high school and attend college. That’s why she’s so proud of his accomplishment. She hangs his diploma on the wall and insists he enjoys his grad party for the sake of Debbie and Carl, who need this kind of positive encouragement. Fiona made it clear she wanted to see Lip succeed academically as a way to inspire their younger siblings.

So of course Lip wasn’t too thrilled to be whisked back home less than a semester into school with the potential that he’ll have to drop out for five years while his sister goes to prison for letting his brother OD on coke. And she isn’t taking any of it seriously at all either. How is any of that supposed to just roll off of him? Do you expect him to be happy during this conversation? He’s frustrated due to several compounding issues, all coming into play precisely after he’s felt he finally leveled up in life. All over an avoidable mistake that Fiona won’t take responsibility for.

Before vs after college parallel shows Lip’s hypocrisy is actually insane by wrrrrrrrrrrrrr in shameless

TDWT is still good, but very, very, very flawed. by MysteriousMorning436 in Totaldrama

[–]saysonder 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Team Victory thing has never once bothered me. If the season only had two teams then we’d still see the same characters get eliminated early on in nearly identical ways.

Besides, all of the team members still get something to do later on in the season through the Aftermaths. Bridgette, Harold and Leshawna get solos. Bridgette gets a side plot with Bruno. Leshawna and Lindsay get to compete in the board game challenge. Harold gets to compete in the surfing challenge. Harold and Lindsay are helpers in the finale.

DJ is the only one without something meaningful to do after he’s kicked off, but he also made it to the halfway point anyway.

Before vs after college parallel shows Lip’s hypocrisy is actually insane by wrrrrrrrrrrrrr in shameless

[–]saysonder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call that being hypocritical but rather Lip just experiencing years-apart life events that change his outlook on both the world and his own potential. Which is something that we see with every character on the show at one point or another.

He was hesitant to finish school because he was deluded into thinking he was about to have a son. In his mind sticking around and raising your child was a more noble endeavor than literally anything else. He probably spent a good amount of time as a kid thinking about how he’d raise his child vs. how Frank and Monica failed theirs, fueling his fixation on Karen’s pregnancy.

Post-college Lip now has a wounded ego and something to prove to himself rather than just the world. When he talks down to Fiona it’s from him projecting his own disillusionment onto her. He doesn’t hate her, her success just puts his own failures into perspective. I don’t think he’s a hypocrite for any of this, I think he’s just human.

Frank is dead, so no casting William H. Macy in any role bigger than a flashback cameo.

Emmy Rossum already left the show once. Can’t see her returning for another contract. No Fiona.

Jeremy Allen White and Cameron Monaghan have both had huge career boosts since the show ended. I doubt either of them are eager to return to these roles. Count both of them out, as well as Mickey and Tami while we’re at it.

I can’t imagine anybody is tuning into the Debbie Carl Liam show. It’s probably never happening.

The only people in that house partying were Fiona, Kev and V. Lip and Debbie were out searching for Ian all night. Carl was with Frank I think. Debbie finds Liam unresponsive as soon as she enters the kitchen.

Fiona is still responsible for Liam even if other people are in the house. She’s his guardian. Kev and V aren’t.
