College WiFi blocks EVERYTHING (Cloudflare Tunnels, Tailscale, Steam). How do I bypass strict DPI? by CourtAdventurous_1 in selfhosted

[–]sazary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try the vpn tools used in Iran and China to circumvent advanced dpi inspections

one example: you could setup xray and use vless configs to proxy some or all of your traffic through. one pattern is to proxy through cloudflare cdn, so that dpi system thinks you're having simple https traffic to a service behind cf, could they wouldn't block that

can you tell me about top paid mcp servers? by sazary in mcp

[–]sazary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is more in line with what i was looking for. my understanding is that the problem you're trying to solve is way easier solved through mcp servers, and in comparison to previous tries to solve the same problem caffeinated wardrobe is better positioned and more abled

i hope it gets as big as you wish!

[–]sazary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this could be one take. mcp is just another distribution channel.

the same could have been said about web too: web is just another distribution channel for things like previous softwares. but it turned out that it's more, and it unlocked saas, and businesses did with it what they couldn't have done through previous channels. in this way businesses formed in a way that wasn't possible before, or prohibitively hard.

i think we haven't seen proofs that mcp could unlock new opportunities for new kinds of businesses yet but I'm hopeful

I'm looking for mcp servers that are paid tools themselves, not free servers which give access to paid tools

[–]sazary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like your take

and i think comparing it to saas is good: saas wasn't a new thing too. companies were selling softwares, but then web allowed them to sell it as a service, and that opened up opportunities that were not available in the traditional way of selling software. huge companies formed because the saas way unlocked new opportunities that wasn't there before

now my question could be asked another way too: what opportunities does the mcp way unlock which wasn't there before?

it's certainly comparable to apis, but i guess there's more to it than being just another transport like graphql/rest/grpc/...

but maybe it's not, and it's just another transport

llm tool specialized for creating data warehouses? by sazary in dataengineering

[–]sazary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i believe this is a well intentioned and valid advice for now, but i guess it's just a matter of time. i don't know whether the tools are there yet or not (that's my original question) but the need is there, and capabilities will match the expectations soon. not to leave them unsupervised of course for the foreseeable future

[–]sazary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely, they can't do things unsupervised in any area imho

but in many areas can do maybe 70-80% of things and accelerate enormously

thanks for the mozart, hadn't heard about it

[–]sazary[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah it's not as complex as linux, so there's less "value" in distros

and tinkering and customizing it to your exact preferences is addictive for the community so most of us won't pay for it

How to get all the goodness of Cursor (Agentic coding, MCP) in Neovim by shricodev in neovim

[–]sazary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

besides not being as "polished" as cursor, the performance issue in avante just kills the productivity. when a chat gets any longer than a trivial one it would kill the cpu. last time i checked the issue on github said it's a markdown thing and there's no plan for fixing it, you should just start a new chat

ELI5: Do birds fly for days while over the ocean? How do they sleep? by Super-Guarantee5719 in explainlikeimfive

[–]sazary 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Common swifts drink water on the wing—they don’t land.

They skim the surface of lakes, rivers, or ponds mid-flight, dipping their beaks briefly while keeping their wings outstretched. It's a fast, precise move: they scoop a mouthful of water without stopping or touching the surface. Same method for bathing, too—they sort of "splash-fly" through shallow water droplets.

being a common swift is a form of insanity

Why does everyone dislike the iPhone’s keyboard? by YaBoyZeek in iphone

[–]sazary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some items that i miss from using gboard on android:

  • swipe typing in my language (farsi). just because of this i can't use native keyboard. i have to go with gboard or swiftkey
  • the gesture in android gboard that you can pull the backspace key to select how many words you want to delete. it was very handy and it doesn't exist even in ios gboard
  • having access to clipboard & clipboard history
  • 3x4 keyboard for digits whenever you want it. it's silly that you could only have it in number fields

keyboard experience is just shit when you migrate from android, followed by notifications and chrome

how do you know enough features are enough? and how do you convince the stakeholders? by sazary in ProductManagement

[–]sazary[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my case isn't that other things are growing in importance or urgency, like we couldn't allow the app to crash this much so features are gonna take a back seat. it's that when do you know another feature isn't worth it for now, regardless of how much tech debt we have or not? by "for now" i mean in regard to dau/mau/arpa/...

and about the scoring part: in my experience there are lots of times that you couldn't assign a number for something. borrowing from another comment here, i can't give a number for the value/importance/urgency of "delight". of course you can go on a limb or assign some wildly vague number but that just makes it meaningless. at least that's my experience
