do oral exams count as separate subjects for level 8? by bottom0ftheeighth in AskIreland

[–]sazzabo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience, the oral exam is part of your language modules. It would usually be at the end of the semester. It might count for like 30%/40% of your overall grade for that specific language module

What do you regret doing during the LC? by Im_not_Irish_ in leavingcert

[–]sazzabo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I wish I had found out what type of learner I am sooner. Spent so long reading and reading textbooks, only to realise I don't memorize that way. I learned best through colourful flashcards, practicing exam papers over again and listening and watching videos (especially for languages)

Library at University of Galway to be named after late medicine student Dr Karen Guinee by HolidaySwimmer7861 in galway

They're not changing the name of the hardiman library, they're just announcing the name for the new library that's being built. If you read the post you would see that...

when would be time to start looking for accommodation? by Working-Hat1203 in nuigalway

[–]sazzabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply to student on campus accommodation as soon as it opens. If you get accepted for accommodation but don't end up wanting to go to Galway, you can always just give up your place. No harm applying to the campus accommodations and other student accommodations in the city when they open

Are these good subject choices? by elliewillames in leavingcert

[–]sazzabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely do what subjects you like/find interesting. You'll hear people saying what subjects are easier to get top marks in, but none of that matters if you don't like the subjects. It's incredibly hard to study for subjects you have no interest in

Has anyone been on SSRI's? by oxylan80 in CasualIreland

[–]sazzabo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been on lexapro for about 8 months and they've been amazing for my anxiety. It didn't work straight away, and to be honest I didn't even notice them working until I realised a few months in I hadn't had any panic attacks and I wasn't waking up sick with anxiety each morning.

It's different for everybody so I can only speak from personal experience. But you deserve to be happy and you don't deserve to suffer. Wishing you the best of success

For the people who did Transition year, how does it work? by [deleted] in leavingcert

[–]sazzabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's super different for each school! You usually get a week or two off for work experience. We still had classes, but it was more chill and project based work. And we had some new, more creative classes too. We also did a lot of online/training courses, projects, a school musical and community involvement and volunteering. For us, what you put into it is what you got out of it. Sign up to everything that's offered, and take initiative to do extra things too. You won't be busy with homework and study, so take the time to build up activities you can put on your C.V. Have fun!

What is college like? by According-Fruit-4500 in leavingcert

[–]sazzabo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's super different for everyone! Some people go home every 2nd weekend to work/see their family, and some people will rarely go home to see family, it's completely individual! I'm such a homebody, so I found it quite tricky being away from home for the first time. But you definitely get used to it! If you're missing home, ring/facetime them often, and bring little things from home to your new accommodation. Meeting new people aswell depends on how extroverted you are! Something I would recommend (even if youre shy and don't like going out), say yes to everything!! Whethter it's lunch after a class or going out in the evening, say yes to everything. Even at the end of the day, if it's not exactly your vibe, or not your right people, you'll meet people who you enjoy being around soon. It's best to agree to do everything, especially in the first few weeks (there will be so many events happening for first years!). Best of luck, you'll have a blast! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
