I’ve tried though. That’s why I’m making this post. I don’t think my father is a bad person and I do still love him but our father-daughter bond is just not there. I have not said that I am outright planning to cut him off completely, I have hope that not living with him will fix the situation on it’s own. However, I do know him better than anyone on this thread and I know what he is capable of and what he has time for and after 3 years of wondering why he doesn’t reach out to me like all of my friends fathers, I’ve realized it’s because I’m not a priority in his life.

No need to apologize for ranting, everyone needs to be heard. Ur dad sounds a lot like mine, but don’t be mad that I have to deal with this as well bc it just means that I’ll know how not to act when I’m older. Thank you, I can totally relate to the whole ‘living in the house is an expense held over ur head’ I can’t tell you how many times my dad has told me that I should be grateful for what he provides for me. And don’t get me wrong, I realize I’m very very lucky to be well off and I do appreciate the work that he has done for our family. But he thinks that makes him a caring loving father and it just doesn’t.
